I'm wanting to register a domain name....the problem I have is all of the preferred extensions are taken....the only ones i have available are
with a biz extension and the other is com.au extension, which one will rank higher considering all things are equal?, I'm thinking the com.au would mostly rank in Australia but not too well outside. Is this true??

Thank you

It's best to go with the .biz extension. And yes, your afirmation is true. You also need to gather backlinks from sites hosted in that country to rank for a certain keyword on google.com.au.

Yeah go for .biz extension. Extensions .com.uk or .com.au usually rank only in that particular country and it would consume more time and work to rank in other countries. The best suggestion would be try a different domain name targeting .com/.net extension.

have you tried prefixing your desired domain name with 'the' or 'a' or 'my' or such word?

I don't believe any of these would hurt you much in the search engines for the domain-name part of the weightage of their SERP score.

Maybe you should use an online dictionary and look for synonyms of the word you want and try that.

Try to find a similar keyword, or any keyword that related to your niche with a better extension. If you really running out of choice, i would suggest the .biz domain. But remember that the domain will need a lot of quality backlinks to get a high rank

Another good tactic for domain names is to add words like get, buy, etc. For example - getteethwhiteningproducts.com. You have a keyword rich domain name that can help in your seo efforts and does not seem spammy like using .info, .biz, etc

I wouldn't even bother with a biz domain. the .au has more value. If your domain is taken, I'd just keep looking for something better than what is currently available. I also rank pretty well with domains that don't even have the keyterms in them. I just make sure I add it to the URL somewhere. It's really about the backlinks more than anything.

Why don't you go use the https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal to find high ranking keywords in your niche.

Decide what your main keywords are & then get a domain name for the same keyword.

Another thing, SEO is more about backlinks. The more, the merrier.
