In WordPress, the posts and other info is usually stored in an sql database. So if you want, you can export your WP site sql database before you reinstall word press. Then once you finish the reinstall, you can import the sql database. Good luck.

Hi Dan
You can use the Export function to export all of your WordPress posts to an XML file. After that you can reinstall WordPress, your themes and plugins and then import the XML file. WordPress goes into detail about this on their site, their steps for doing a manual upgrade are essentially what you need to do to fix your blog: Upgrading WordPress WordPress Codex Bill |

I had a similar issue with my website where everything just went horribly wrong so I went for the re-install option. The Export function that Bill mentioned above is what I used and it worked perfectly. All of my data was imported correctly after getting Wordpress back onto the server from scratch so that's the option I'd go for if I were you. My site's been fine ever since so hopefully it won't happen again!
Good luck sorting out the issue. ![]() Bex |

Maybe it's best to tell what's gone crazy on your blog as maybe you do not need to do a reinstall

Hi,
Just wondering for future reference, do we need to back anything else up besides using the export feature? I heard something that you should back files up as well, so which exact files would they be? And would they be backed up using ftp? Thanks for any insight on this. Paul. P.S Sorry for hijacking your thread dan, I didn't think it was worth starting a whole new thread for this little question.

If you have any uploads in your wp-content uploads folder , would probably be good to copy them.
