I am transfering a website from sitebuilder to wordpress. I had someone create a custom theme for another website and want to use it on this site. I have never done this through Hostgator Control panel. I had the guy walk me through it and still don't understand. I get to the point where you have to choose the file and zip it and I don't know where to go from there. Any help out there is very appreciated!

Thanks,

Jayson

I am assuming that the theme you had designed for your other site is a WordPress theme. If so, then you need to do the following:

Use the HostGator control panel and install an instance of WordPRess (It sounds like you have done this). If not go to: How to install a script using Fantastico HostGator.com Support Portal for instructions (fantastico is located near the bottom of cpanel in the Software section) - in Fantastico, select Wordpress by clicking on it. Then follow the instructions...

Next, you can use the WordPRess Admin panel to upload your theme. You can zip it by using Windows (right click the theme folder and select Send To => Compressed Folder).

In the WordPress Admin section, select Appearance => Add New Theme and click "Upload Theme" Then navigate to the zip file you just made and upload it.

Then all you have to do is activate your new theme.

That's all the detail I have time to go into for now. I hope this helps you out.

    Take care!

I'd suggest you learn to use an ftp client as it will give you much greater flexibility down the road than just using cpanel
