Problem With Banner

I apologise for inadvertently placing this message in the incorrect category elsewhere on this forum.
I am a new CPA affiliate but have run into a problem when I attempt to upload the banner here is the problem,
After I've saved the banner in myCPA folder I then need to upload it to my Media buy: This message appears
Image file maximum file size 50k, .gif, .jpg, .png File type incorrect
(must be .jpg, .gif, or .png)######
The banner is saved in my pictures as htm but it will not upload in
that format. It is 1kb in size and I don't know how to
reduce it down to 50k so as Media buy will accept it. Do I need
to change it to a .jpeg file. Can some kind person guide me through this problem, I am running Windows XP home version and am at my wits end

    Firstly 1kb is smaller than 50k (50k is short for 50kb). Secondly it is so small there is very little there.

    An htm file is a webpage, not a graphic. .gif, .jpg, .png are graphic files (ie pictures).

    Generally the htm file will be a link to a graphic file. Have a look for a folder in the same directory as the htm file. It will have a related name.

    e.g. if your htm file is called banner.htm the folder may be called banner_files.


    When you find the folder, look in it for a graphic file of your banner. It will probably be one of the allowed types. But if it is a bmp you will have to convert it.

      And to add to what Susan says, when you find the correct banner image, if you do need to convert it then right click on the image, select to open with "Paint", once in the paint program, click on file at the top, then "save As" and there you will be able to save as a different file type, perhaps if you need it to be .jpg for instance.

      Hello Susan,
      thanks for your help, I was able to change the htm file in Gimp to .jpeg, and now have my ad up and running. I am most greatfull to you and Susanne and My Web Work , I hope you'll excuse me I'm now over 60 and still learning!

    Both Susan and Sue have offered good advice (no surprise there!), I'll just add a bit to it:

    The banner you have probably consists of 2 parts - an "htm" file and some associated graphic. The "htm" file likely just contains an image tag that points to the graphic, and a hyperlink which has a link to the CPA offer with your affiliate code built in.

    The banner was likely designed to be used "as-is" on a static web age, however it sounds like you are using WordPress. This is fine, but you need to do things differently. You have two choices:

    1 - Use it "as-is" and modify your WordPress theme to embed this code. No offense intended, but from your post I don't think you know how to do this yet. Not everyone is fluent in PHP!

    2 - Do what you are doing and upload the graphic (not the htm file) as an image. Then use the properties of that image to add your link with your affiliate code. This is what I suggest you do as it's easier to understand.

    You CPA provider may have the banner available in different formats which might make this easier.

      Thanks Bill, I'm not actually using Wordpress but am doing a media buy. You're right though, I do struggle with web files html .jpeg, etc I have made a note of your comments for further reference and am most greatfull for your advice.
