I just want one where I can have products for sale, maybe park some sites, emails, decent space and bandwidth, shopping cart is a must...

If you want to have a monthly paid hosting account then
    Hostgator is your best bet.

The reviews seem horrible because people who are unhappy are often the most vocal people out there. You can not always trust public opinion and reviews. The best bet is to get advice from those you know and trust that have used the services. For my part, GoDaddy and HostGator have never failed me.

I've been using webhostingbuzz and hostgator both for several years - hostgator comes out top as they have 24/7 support - and when you have a problem with your sites you need to talk to someone asap.

EDIT feb 2009: removed my recommendation for myriadnetwork, my sites were offline for days several times (downtime ca. 6 days in 3 weeks), support not responding anymore. Other user tell me they have had changing server IPs for their sites several times.

I'm using liquidweb now. Not as cheap, but again it's been proven: your get what you pay for.

I have been using Hostpapa for about 6 months. It is affordable, easy to work with, and they promote going green. I am not aware of any problems or down time.
I think the price and functionality of hostpapa is similar to others mentioned such hostgator, bluehost, etc.

Maybe you can consider Global Domain International.
It's only 10$ per month for both the domain name
and the hosting account. You can try it 7 days for
free before they start charging. So you can take your
time to see what's inside or maybe you can see the
    review.

I just got my .ws website.. Thinking about how to
    design it..

How about free hosting? Many people say don't use it, but I have been using it for over a year and like it much better than the paid hosting I use to have. There are no pop ups or ads on the hosting I have and you can get all the requirements you asked for in your post.

I choose 1and1. They have a way to host unlimited websites with just one little package that costs $3.99 per month. The domains only cost $6.99 on average. As of right now, i pay $7 per year per domain, less than $40 per year in hosting costs, and I host over 20 websites with this service. Oh, and they also have the most emails, databases, support, bandwidth and features of any hosting company I have ever run into. They never disappoint and I have been with them w/o incident since 2005.

If you want, i can show you how to get those websites all hosted in the same package. If anyone else is interested, shoot me a PM and I can show you too!

Much love to the forum baby!

The problem I've had with free hosting is they tend to disappear over night. I had one for over two years then without notice one day I went to upload and my site had been replaced with a ad for paid hosting. Plus most tend to take the prime advertising spots for themselves. And it's not easy getting good search engine rankings with them as most search engines know how they disappear. Just my opinion.

    I strongly recommend Hostmonster.

They offer tremendous live 24/7 support from their American based home office.

I leased my own servers to host my clients until I found Hostmonster where I have had all of my clients make the switch.

Well you can expect a certain amount of downtime with any webhost but I just had the ultimate bad experience with Hostmonster. ALL of my websites got wiped out-they said they had a corrupt filesystem on one of their servers and it wiped out the hard drives-all my web files down the toilet. I naively assumed that they had a backup of my files but apparently the backup system was corrupted as well and they can't restore my files. So 2 years of work gone-all my money sites-gone. I now realize I should have made a backup of everything (I didn't realize until quite recently that you could even do that) but alas....too little too late.

Looks like the majority like Host Gator here. I have sites on Host Gator and Blue Host. I tend to like Blue Host better. Their cpanel offers a little more and you get a free domain that is registered anonymously for you.

I talk a little more on my website about Blue Host feel free to take a look.

I am going to add a pic or maybe video, soon of the cpanel offered by bluehost on the site.

I recently joined DreamHost to host my WordPress blog, and I'm very pleased so far. They are feature rich, and the price is very reasonable. Also I was lucky enough to find a site with a whole host of coupons which provide a wide array of joining bonuses, starting from a free extra domain, to a 50$ discount off your order (that's the one I used). Got a very sweet deal

Their address is DreamHost dot com (since apparently I'm not allowed to post URLs until I make 15 posts at least)

    Promo Codes you can use:

    RANH50 - 50$ Discount
FREE_IP - 20$ discount, and a free static IP for life (instead of 4$ a month). Good for people who want to use SSL
MORE_DOMAINS - 35$ discount and an extra free domain registration (2 total)
MORE_STORAGE - 32$ discount and an extra 100Gigs of storage space
    MORE_BANDWIDTH - 32$ discount and 1TB extra BW (6TB total)

(although right now there's a special offer for the next 1000 people that join that gives you unlimited storage & BW for life)

EDIT - Correction, they're offering unlimited hosting space and BW to the next 1111 people who join (apparently it a special promo for their 11th birthday), and there's less than 30 spots remaining according to them!

      Hello everyone,

I would like to tell you about free web hosting service I use now.

Free Web Hosting with PHP, MySQL and cPanel, No Ads

They give 1500 MB of disk space and 100 GB data transfer. I am now using them for about 3 months and never seen any downtime of server problems. There is no any kind of advertising on my pages too, so I think its worth to signup.

It is the 000webhost.com, go on visit it and find more info..

Try the wayback machine and type your sites into it - you might be able to get some of that back if they cached your sites.

Also try google cache. Save it all and see if you can reconstruct.

Thank You. That's an excellent idea-I didn't even think of that. I did get an update from Hostmonster. They told me 11 people lost all of their files but they were able to recover mine except for one site. I was so happy-unfortunately 11 others were not so lucky. Makes me wonder if shared hosting is even worth it if you start doing some real volume.

I was using GoDaddy for the past several years but now I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend them. They screwed up and I lost one of my primary domains - they didn't even bother to give me a courtesy call, though they did so every time I added a new service. They wanted to charge me about $90.00 to get my domain back.

Anyway, enough about that. I should have known their customer service would be pitiful - they don't even have a toll-free customer service number.

Now I'm moving all of my domains to bluehost budurl.com/bluehosting

I've heard lots of good things about them from other marketers and have been more than satisfied so far.

    I hope this helps!

I have been happy with HostMonster for a few years other than mysteriously needing to reinstall FrontPage Extensions on a fairly regular basis to post changes.

A client got his own domain names, emails, and shopping cart on GoDaddy for me to build a site and I was appalled at how badly they reamed him selling him everything possible including e-mail addresses (which are free with most hosting services), an SSL, and how unintuitive they are to publish too.

I have a reseller hosting account with addictivehosting. In my 7 months with them, they have not been down for more than 1 day at a time.

Those hosts you mentioned such as bluehost, hostmonster, hostgator are all excellent but they are not exactly cheap, some allow adult content while others are strictly against anything adult. Besides, for each of the mentioned hosts, they have their own peculiar settings and disadvantages, if only you know what to search for.

I am new here, not sure if I am allowed to pre-sell anything here, but if you would like to test the server speed, etc. I'll be glad to set up an account for you to demo up to a week. Just PM me, and if what I am doing now is not allowed, kindly give me a warning. Thank you.

I have used a virtual dedicated server on godaddy for a long time and have never had any problems with it. Service is great. I consider it cheap, as it is only about 300/year and is all yours. I think I have about 50 domains on it, so the cost per domain is tiny.

I also have a regular $7.99/mth hosting plan at hostgator for some other uses and they are very good as well. I really like the c-panel interface which some of the other lower cost hosts dont offer.

For me, having real, live support is more important than a buck or so per month. So, I guess "cheap" is relative.
