I just bought a domain from 1&1 and added it as an addon to my hosting account with host monster. i made my first page and named it index.html
and i did everything else right, the folders, directory rout...
but when i go to see my site live, a page comes up which is the temporary web page they(1&1) setup, now and it tells me i have to replace it with my new index page. however i dont know where to find this file and replace it. do i look in my domain account or would it now be in my hosting account? i know i am missing something simple here.
how do i replace the temporary web page that they set up with my own?

thank you so much in advance.

    The domain will take time to fully resolve to your new server, this might take couple hours or even couple days.

      i know, i bouth it last might. the problem is not that it hasnt resolved yet. its ready to go. the problem is that 1$1 places a temp page as your index when yopu buy new domain(which is my first time with them), so i dont know how to replace that with my own index page, which they tell me to do so when i type in my url.

        Satrap,

        If I understand correctly you have a brand new domain name and when you type that into the web-browser you get a generic page saying the site has not been set up yet, or something of that nature. There are two possible causes of this situation:

        1) the name is not yet pointing at the IP address where your files are actually stored (this is what chachachallis was talking about.) So instead of showing the files that you have placed at that IP address you see a different index.html at 1&1.

        2) Your index.html is not in the ritght place, the correct folder is often called "public_html", "/" or "www". It needs to be in the first directory that the web-browser looks. Did 1&1 tell you where to load the files. Since you are convinced it is not the prevoius problem check this one out. If you are getting the wrong page for this reason you should find another file called index.html in one of these places.

        If this doesn't help, post some more information about the situation.

          thanks for the help. no everything is set up correctly, the index file is where it needs to be and the rest. I found some help on their site which told me how to disable that "temp page" service and after 5 minuets you should see your index page when you go to your url, which i did disbale the service but now it s the same page, only it does not have the link that when clikced would show me why they created the temp page.

          now here is one thing. since you said the index file has to be in the right place, it kind made me worried that maybe i did it wrong. so here is the deal;
          I never used 1 hosting panel for 2 diff domains. i added the new domain as add on and Created a new directory in public_html/, changed the dns and everything else, then i went to my hosting cpanel and went to file - Web Root (public_html/www) - clicked on the new domain - uploaded the index.html

          did i do anything wrong? i am not sure if the new domain is seposed to be in the www directory with all the other domains or ...? is that where i went wrong?

          thanks again.
