Need Help From Wordpress Savvy Warriors...

Hello,

Ok I just got a custom Wordpress site built by one of our very own Warriors, great site, love it! The problem I'm having is that my site was built with a custom home page already.

I created a separate tag for all of my blog posts. When I go to make it static,
I can't select my custom home page for my front page view, so any blog posts I make they post on the home page and not in the blog page that I created.

I've been bustin' my head for hours:confused: trying to figure this out. So in a nutshell, I just want to make my site static, with my custom homepage being the front page, and all of my blog posts going to the blog page I created, without creating a new page and making that the homepage because then it won't have my video and custom header on it.

So any help from any warrior out there would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Ed

    Hello,

I'm not sure if this would be appropriate to what you are trying to do, however:

You should be able to install more than one blog in your site's directory. What if you were to do so and then just link to the subdirectory from your main page ?

You would even be able to use the same database if you wanted to, just change one or two variables. I can respond later with the exact one when I have a chance (not around my personal computer at the moment).

To summarize: Keep your main index page the same. (yoursite.com). Then try installing a second blog in a subdirectory (yoursite.com/blog). Return to your main page and link to the blog page.

Would this work for you ?

      Hello,

Thanks for the reply, I'm not sure if that would work. Because my wordpress url and blog url are both the same. I actually tried doing www dot mysite dot com and it just redirected to the homepage, so I
honestly don't know how to change it, I tried changing it in my php but it still was doing the same thing.

But please show me how you did it with your site and I will definitely give it a go, thanks!

    G'day Ed,

Sorry I didn't understand your second post. But from the first post I gather that you already have a website and you want to add a bog. Is that correct?

You can install the blog into a subdirectory, eg make a directory called /news/, install the blog into /news/ and place a link to that directory on your website. When users select the link they will be taken to the index page of the blog. Or the address http:\\www.yourwebsite.com/news

    Does that make sense?

    Hi Ed,

I like to see your site once, I hope i can fix this. I converted few blogs into squeeze page in past, I mean I created the WP theme for few of my clients which looks like a static squeeze page/ sales page at home page and if some one click on blog it will go to standard blog. It has everything like videos, call of action forms. Even if your has several custom pages, I can fix that too.

    Thanks.

      Hi Ed!

Log into your WordPress Admin, and on the bottom of the control bar (left hand side of screen), click on Settings, Reading.

On the "Front Page Displays" section, set it to static and pick the "home" page that you want to always display. Then set the Posts Page to whatever page you created for the blog.

Let me know if you have any questions - I'd be happy to help out if I can.

If you listed what Theme you are using or the name of your site, I (we) could take a look for you.

Some premium themes have their own "home" page built in and you have to create a "blog" page in the template selections (not the theme selections).

This is done a little differently than the normal "Static Home Page" settings in Wordpress.

You could also contact the individual that did the site for you too and they could probably get you squared away in a jiffy.
