Color difference between IE and Firefox

I'm developing a Wordpress site for the first time and I've got a problem with the different ways IE and FF display header colors. If you check this page in IE and then Firefox you'll see two different shades of blue in the header:

In the FF display the color is uniform but in IE you see enough shade difference to ruin the header.

I'm familiar with differences in text display but I've never had this color problem before. Can anyone explain it?

I notice that the header background image is transparent in the style sheet but taking that out makes no difference.

Thanks for any suggestions!

The first thing that comes to my mind would be to change the image format. gif to jpg, or jpg to gif, depending on what you're using. If you're using png, that could be the problem.

There is a difference in how the different browsers work with RGB. I don't know enough about the details to explain it in a good way, but I solve it by saving images "for the web" in your image editor. Then the image will look the same in all browsers.

      Good luck
