I need to create a simple site that will serve as a directory for an industry in the US. As an example, let me use the classic car mechanic industry.

I need to be able to add text, pictures, video's, ect...for this industry and create geographic directory, state-city ( or county ) to build advertisment pages for those in that business who pay me to be listed as a provider of services in that specific area. I want to be able to ad pictures and/or video to their pages as well to show samples of their work or their shop location, ect...

My only kowledge is with WP and is truely limited but this can't be that hard to set up for someone who does this alot.

I would like suggestions, opinions, and if you have an exact solution you could set up in my bluehost account, please PM me with details.

Thanks again,
Enterpryzman

Looks pretty interesting and not too hard to use. I would have to have it installed and customized by someone ( for a reasonable fee ). Have you used this and could I look at one of your sites ?

      Thanks,

WP is easier to set up and use, but if you are willing to take the time to learn another CMS, you may find Joomla more flexible.

Wordpress is a good choice. It's a simply CMS. You can make your own theme and add plugin to make your website be what you want.

I'd use WordPress and something like
      Code:
      directorypress.net/
. (FYI, I have no affiliation to it.)

My business partner on a few projects, has used it, and he loves it.

You can do the same with Joomla a content management system and Sobi which is a directory listing component for Joomla.

Wordpress can be customized to suit your needs though Joomla can do the same as well. I prefer wordpress for it's simplicity and support.

While Wordpress can be used as a CMS, and you could do what you describe, with the help of plug-ins, it's primarily a blogging platform. You may find that at a later stage you run into limitations.

Joomla (and Drupal) on the other hand are designed to be flexible and are true content management systems. Joomla has a thriving developer community and a growing number of themes are available. It's not too difficult to learn, but if you don't want to do that, you could always hire someone to do it for your, either here or on Elance or Rentacoder.

    Joomla and Sobi2 ... definitely.

That will be so much more flexible. And you will get a much better choice of templates and plugins (known as extensions).

Wordpress was designed for blogs and has expanded to incorporate various plugins. Joomla on the other hand was designed as a content management system and has thousands of tools that bolt on really easily. Wordpress is good, but Joomla is awesome by comparison.

I also feel that the Joomla community is much more of a family and it's really easy to get help with Joomla. I can't say that my experiences with Wordpress have been comparable.

I really recommend Joomla for this type of project because that's what is was designed for. It's not what Wordpress was designed for.

i use Drupal to build my site, people always say that Drupal is more professinal than Wordpress, it is hard to learn. However i feel that Drupal is easier to use than Wordpress. if Wordpress and Joomla could not satisfy you, try Drupal

I prefer Wordpress because it's the largest blog platform right now, it's friendly, looks great, and has many many plugins and theme options. I also like their backend.
