Hey all I have just bought a domain and it already has a page rank and what not. I want to make a website sort of like elance.com but instead of hiring people to do work for you, it'll be more along the lines of a photographer or artist uploads their photos or pictures and people can buy the rights to use them in whatever they need them for.

Ovbiously I would take a commission for the survices provided but ultimately I want to create a hub for artists and photographers alike to distribute their work.

What I want from you is the best way I would go about doing this i.e what platform should I use (WordPress etc), how would I go about letting people sign up and upload their work. And how would I go about distributing the work once it was set up?

This is literally the first idea I have had for the site and it would be cool if anyone else had any cool ideas for it or how it could be done.

    An existing platform probably won't work. You'll probably need to design something custom.

    The Envato Marketplace sounds like what you want to do. Look around and get some ideas.

    A suggestion I can give you is that to begin upload all the material you have of this kind to the site so it doesn't look empty. Your buyers will return to the site if they think they can found what they are looking. If you have friends working on this area tell them to also upload their material.

    You can also try contacting people at sites like deviantart, telling them that you are opening a new site and that they can upload their pictures there for selling.

    When the site already have some material and is ready to go make some press releases and anounce it on those web 2.0 directories.

    Another important suggestion is to give a fair share to your uploaders, at least 50%. There are some markeplaces like this that want to give you just 20%, that's very greedy. I wouldn't upload anything there just because of principles.

    I have got some information about the brain picking that they just stand there and let the carnivores pick meat off their bone? ...... And how bizarre that an atheist, or anyone with a functioning brain or the picking.
