I hope I'm in the right section...if not, Moderator - please remove this thread.

I've never stepped outside of GoDaddy - but every time I need to setup a new site - it'll cost around $75 w/ a new domain name that I choose.

Just wondering if there are hosting services out there that are cheaper and also where I can choose my domain name. I don't want anything like Intuit dot com or Site Build It (I think that's the name of it) where it's really for ppl that don't know coding - but a place similar to Godaddy - but cheaper...

    Hi bigcat1967

I use Lunarpages. I have 13 websites with them and how it works is the first 1 I pay the regular hosting account fees for (Unlimited storage, Unlimited Bandwidth, Unlimited Domains), but all the other ones are free.

All I have to do is go over to NameCheap.com, register a domain name for $9.69 per year, then I point it to the name servers on Lunarpages. Then at my account on Lunarpages, I go into the control panel and select Add-On Domain. I give it the domain name I just purchased...

This makes a new sub Dir in my main account (the one with the full hosting package) with the name of the Domain. I place all of my files into that sub dir... Then in about 48 hours (that's how long it takes the name to propogate around the globe), anyone that enters my domain name into the browser goes to my new site. They have no idea that it is a sub domain. In essence, all my new sites cost me a total of $9.69 per year.

With prices like that you can test things out and see how your ads are working without it costing you an arm and a leg.

    Have a Great Day!

I use godaddy too but from what I know if you need to add a new domain (dot com) all you have to do is register a new domain (usually less than $10 after discount).

I think you could have sign up for hosting account instead just buying a domain.

Normally if you sign up for something like $75 a year its a hosting account, you'll find godaddy bundle in a free domain name to sweeten the deal. And in one hosting account you can host unlimited domains for godaddy (if I remember well).

But there's a catch in godaddy, you can only have 99 subdirectories in your account. Say I'm going to build multiple minisite and each these minisite's first page is index.html and I can't put all my sites on the same directory. Thus I need to create one subdirectory for each new domain I add on and indirectly this is putting a cap on the number of domains I can host with one hosting account (I could be wrong).

Maybe there are ways to going around this issue but this is what my understanding is now. Hope this help.

Choose a host which allows multiple sites on one account.
Many web hosts offer this - here's a few examples: Best cPanel hosting - Web Hosting Diary

Checkout hostgator.com you probably will have all the hosting power you need for $5 a month. And if you don't want to use GoDaddy for the domain names, check out 1and1.com they give you the private registrations for free. The only thing I don't like about them is DNS updates take 24-48hrs VS GoDaddy's 2-4hrs usually updates. (You only need to worry about DNS when you change web host providers)

BTW, this is honest advice, not affiliate links.
