many of the hosting companies will give you a "Free" domain name with the hosting package.... So in effect you don't need to register a domain name with GoDaddy...

As stated above, you can find some really good Hosting companies these days.

If you plan on being in Internet Marketing, it is important to have a host that allows Unlimited Add-On domains.

What this means is that you purchases a hosting package... it comes with a domain name, but then when you want to add a second domain, you go to GoDaddy (I like NameCheap.com better), purchase a New Domain, and then point it to the name servers on your hosting account. Then in the control panel for the hosting account you setup an Add-On domain.... So you get a new site for the cost of the domain name only, you don't need to have another hosting package. NameCheap is $9.69 a year for the domian name and the first year included WhoIs Guard for free...

Register your domain at Godaddy.com and host it at hostgator.com. Use Godaddy just for their cheap domains, but don't stay on their site any longer than you need to lol.

I do web development and I've had trouble with their hosting. Hostgator is the only host I can say I've never had a problem with. Tech support is great too. Just map it over to your hostgator account. So easy. If you need a hand I'll help ya out.

I can't speak for any of the other companies, since I'm relatively new at this, but Bluehost has been great for me. When I first started IM, I had a lot of problems (all my own fault) that they helped me through. Also, when they say that they have 24 hours service, they mean it. Once, I called them at 3:00am and they walked me through the solution. That's the kind of service that earns my loyalty.

As far as domain names, I've just used Bluehost for that too. Again since I'm new, I just try to keep it simple where I can. Sometimes, I feel a little overwhelmed, so simple is good for me.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that Bluehost also has unlimited add-on domains.

I'm a big fan of JustHost.com. They offer great value as well as a free domain.

I have used Godaddy for domain registrations & hosting , their service is good & I have not got any problems so far (I have been using godaddy for almost 4 yrs).

I have also hosted one of my site in Hostgator ,their service is also good & comparable to godaddy.

As a web developer , I get a chance to work with most of the webhosting control panels & I would prefer you to choose a webhosting provider , who provides CPanel access & SHELL access , as it will help you a lot in managing the server & the site.

Depending on your needs, more expensive hostings can actually save you money. For simple sites go with the suggested hostings (I do still have an hostgator account) but consider also media temple or the almost unknown hostv (no affiliation, I'm just a satisfied customer).

Although I am brand new at web design, I have to say the easiest newbie host I've used is from, I tried Blue host which is still a great program but, SBI made super simple for me to load page, find a design, and began to get ranked with the search engines. WARNING: SBI is not cheap hosting! Google site build it!

If you are going to go with Bluehost, you may as well go with Hostmoster which is a part of Bluehost, but with a cheaper plan.

The servers are the same, with the only difference that Hostmonster doesn't allow catchall domain email forwarding, (where blahblah@domain.com and yeahyeah@domain.com would automatically be forwarded to a particular email address, without having to set them each individually.)

I've heard people say that Bluehost uses better servers, and that Hostmonster's are Bluehost's 'hand-me-downs'. Seems just an assumption on most people's case, though I would love if anyone had proof of this.

Well, like a lot of these guys have said, the big name companies are an option for you. But I don't think anyone mentioned the downsides of dealing with such huge corporations. Many moons ago when I first started doing this, I noticed a trend among hosting companies. Most of them simply do not care whether or not your site is online. They'll tell you any number of stories to keep you satisfied that they are looking out for your best interest, but many times this simply isn't true. You'll call support and wait in queue for over an hour. You'll submit a ticket and wait days and days for a response.

My personal opinion is to go with a smaller hosting company. One that needs your business to survive in this economy, not some huge corporation that could care less if they lose 1 of their 500,000 customers.
I do happen to run a small hosting company and would be thrilled to answer any questions you may have. I'm not necessarily suggesting you sign up immediately for MY hosting service, but think about what I mentioned regarding going with a smaller hosting company. There are a lot of us out there if you take a look around.

I have had nothing but good experience with HostGator. They have good deals and very good customer service (and are environmentally friendly for those who care).

Did an extensive research prior to signing up and found lots of positive feedback out there. Their Reseller packages are also great.

Only downside in my opinion is that they do not support asp.net.

I ALWAYS RECCOMMEND idealhosting - they're fantastic all round! Plus on some packages, if you get the hosting, you get the domain name for free!

There are so much optiions... go google for keyword "Domain Hostings" and you have a lot to choose from

I use godaddy, with a deluxe shared hosting plan and I have registered about 40 domains with them, all CAN be hosted on the same hosting account. Basically, if you can get over godaddy's poor and confusing UI (its getting better and more user friendly) then just go with them. Good luck.

I was told not to have your domain URL and Hosting by the same company. I am not sure how valid this information is, it was taught in a class I went to Thailand for. The rest of what I learned was not much and at a total cost of about £5000 including travel! Alright a bit of let off steam over :<>)) This "Guru" reckons, if you have a problem with the company or if the company is in trouble, you will have difficulties rescuing your profitable business if both Host and domain from the same company!
