What is an optimized theme?

HI - fairly new to wordpress.
I am trying to find out to find out what it means to optimize (for SEO) a THEME as opposed to optimizing for content (ie title, keywords, etc).
How exactly does one optimize a theme itself? When reading about themes and people that install them, I keep running across this comment, but I am not clear on what it means exactly. for example, some people say they will do an opitimized installation for you - no content. Others are discussing how one specific theme is more optimized than another.
Any explanation of this concept greatly appreciated!

You could edit the theme's HTML, to ensure it is as SEO friendly as possible. However, they could also mean optimization in terms of having the web site running as quickly as possible i.e. fast loading times etc.

You need to make your site seo-friendly and spread your keyword in the right place. Like the titles, description, etc. If you are using wp, install some quality seo plugins

First you have to know that most of themes out there are really not SEO friendly, including premium themes. An SEO friendly theme is theme that properly optimized for basic onpage SEO. On page SEO is not just about theme optimization, but it's half of it.

When i say optimized themes, I mean:
    • Proper H1 and H2 tagging in index page and single page. This is the criteria that many themes doesn't meet.
    • Good sidebar code placement
    • Good post and page linking structure.
    • Good navigation structure
    • Fast loading.
I think that's what your themes should have at least.

Hope that helps, PM me if you have something to ask. Glad if i could help.

I use the Ultimate Blogging theme in Wordpress, and with a few additional plug-ins it is pretty much SEO optimized. I love it and have gotten good rankings so far.
