Images taking hours to replace? Help!

Hello fellow Warriors

I was wondering if you had come up against this problem. For the past couple of days, any changes I make to my websites are taking hours to show up. It is very frustrating. Even when I delete a file, it still shows at the website, even after hundreds of refreshes. Then when I finally give up, I come back later and it still hasn't replaced. Hours later it finally replaces.

Does anyone know what may be causing this? My host was no help. Could the fault be with my ISP?

Could be browser settings. If you have it set to always use cache.

Try clearing your cache then checking or CTRL/F5

control f5 will only work with firefox... I would also recommend contacting your hosting support and ask them about it, they will have a look and see if it's cache on the server.

      Who are you hosted with?

By delete file do you mean from the server through ftp or your code editor? That would eliminate browser caching issue, but if you are just removing an image form the code... it could be browser cache

I've already tried all the obvious stuff, clearing cache, trying on different browsers, computers etc. I have tried uploading through Filezilla and Cpanel, but still no luck.

I guess I'll contact my host again. Thanks.

Do you have your ftp client set to overwrite existing files on the server? Also in the File Manager through cpanel.
Try deleting the old image you want to replace, then uploading the new once the old is removed.

I had a similar problem for a while and it was the failure of my own isp to update frequently. Just a thought. I wonder if you would see a different page if you visited your site through a proxy site after you make a change...

Kay, I think you've hit the nail on the head. I called and asked a friend to view who was with Telstra, and they could view it. I was still seeing the old header. The problem is, the client is with Telecom as well, so I upload, then it is hours before I can contact him with the changes made. It's making me look really unprofessional. I called Telecom, and the help desk was hopeless, after we had talked for quite some time, she asked me, 'so you have your own website?' I felt like tearing my hair out.

How long did it take until the problem cleared up for you? Do you think I may have to change ISPs?

What happens if you just delete the image you are trying to replace, then view the page? Does the image still show? If so, somebody's cache isn't getting cleared.

As far as your client's impression of you, I'd simply explain what's going on, and ask them to help you test things. Make a change & see if the client can see it.

Also, do you have the same issue with text?

Idea: You could try using a different file name for the image. Just make sure you make the appropriate change in the code of the page.
