I am looking for some critiques of my blog SuburbanDollar.com, I have only gotten comments from people I am already associated with which I don't think tells a whole lot about usability, presentation, etc... Would love to get some feedback telling me:
  1. What you liked,
  2. What you didn't like, and
  3. What I could improve upon.

I really like the site. The design is good. The navigation is intuitive. There is lots to play with. I think you are well on your way. Building more conversation in the comments section, and getting some regular users would be a great next step. Potentially sharing some blog rolls and participating on other blogs might help (calculated risk? business insider?)

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

@dvduval - Thanks for the feedback, I am actually working pretty hard right now to reach out to others in my niche and hopefully foster some additional conversation on my site. It is hard sometimes to get people to bust in and comment but hopefully I will nail it down soon.

@travisman - I can see what you are saying about "a lot going on" I cut out the link unit ad on the front between the header and posts, it wasn't performing that well anyway. Other than that there is only two adsense blocks, one in post on single post pages and one on the sidebar. The rest are affiliate links or direct ad sales.

I like the suggestion of a video or couple of sentences about the blog, what would be a good way to integrate that into the site without making it even busier?

too much advertising in the website, in my personal point of view you must show the ad where you leave the content empty, and contextually the Google link will fill that space, so peple click their naturally, by thinking it part of website, another thing you must create the links exactly the color of your normal hyperlinks.

My initial reaction is that I don't know the site is about. The first thing I see is the Restaurant.com ad. Is this an ad? An article or what. It's not clear and takes up a lot of real estate. Your content is mostly below the fold. I find myself asking, why should I read your site? What's in it for me?
    I hope this helps.

Good design elements. However I would take the "follow me on twitter" popup, even though its cool. also the add in the banner doesnt "fit". Post a new draft. All in all good job

Your website will be about 200% better if you minimize those ads. When your website was loading i just saw the top navigation menu and thought this should be a nice website. But the moment i saw those ads, i was like My EYES....oh.... It hurts.
Your website layout is good. But please minimize the ads. It would be really good.

You might have your reasons although I would ask why don't you want to try to have visitors signing up for something like a newsletter or a free gift instead of "pestering" [lol] them with a restaurant ad at the top of the page?

Your content is good, it made me read the whole page. I didn't know the collectors were that human.......
