Content Management System for a Product Website

Hello Warriors,

I've been busy with internet marketing for some time now, but I always left all these 'internet marketing products' for what they are. Since I discovered the whole scene about these things, with as a prime example this forum, I'm thinking it's time for a change on this point.

One thing immediately came to mind while I was visiting the websites of some of the products that are offered. They all look the same?

For example:
- The SENuke website.
- The BruteForceSEO website.
- The SocialBot website.
(I wasn't able to post links as a member without a post, lol)

These sites all seem to have the exact same structure. This made me wondering if there is some kind of CMS including a membership function that people use to create such a website? Or do all of them just use the same webdesigner which creates this result?

I'm hoping for some answers. This is my first post, but I'll try to be of value to the forum in the near future.

Thanks again!

Looking at their source code I don't see anything in common.

I agree a lot of sales page do look similar all over the net (i.e. centered, fixed width, one column) but don't confuse web design with CMS script running in the background.

Hi Istvan, thanks for your reply.

I viewed the source of the pages as well and couldn't find any similarities. I know the difference between a front-end and a back-end, but since all front-ends look the same I kind of came to the conclusion that most sites must be similar in the back-end as well.

Which brings me to another question, is there any script/software available to create such a website? And what exact functions do these kind of websites have?

I want to make sure there's no out-of-the-box package for a site like this before I create my own CMS to do the same.

The Backends to the websites could be very different,

One may use a CMS like drupal or Joomla modified for the needs of that website owner, or they may be built custom, using a framework, there are many ways to produce the same front end.

You could custom build a landing page, use a template and swap graphics, and then use a membership[ script, free or paid and then use that to manage a login.

I have a free WSO comming out in the next couple days, it will be a landing page template with some nice features, I also have my course opening up afterwords.. maybe in a week or so depending... where I have built a custom site, and membership scripts, and will be using clickbank to sell it... the course teaches everything. There are also plenty of other ways to find this information.

Don't forget you can use a simple sales page template, custom or not, and then link it to a members area that uses a CMS.

          Thanks for your reply, CarloD.

I appreciate your input concerning the backend.

But it still makes me wonder why all of these websites look so alike? They all use the same structure, same fonts, even the same images sometimes. On the other hand these designs seem to be very well fitted to the product that's being offered. So who designs these websites? Are there some template designers that are responsible for all these similar pages? I can't imagine that the people who sell these products are also skilled at Photoshop, for example. Neither do I think they all hired different webdesigners with the same style accidentaly.

Also, can anyone tell me what kind of functions are available in these sites? I was thinking of at least a payment-gateway and some kind of product-delivery system.

Seems to me like everybody is kind of copying the same concept, while selling their products just it to eachother as well. Where are the distinctive entrepeneurs?

This all might be because I'm underinformed, if so, I apoligize . I'm here to learn!

Sales pages have evolved toward an optimum point. Most products evolve to end up so that almost all brands and models look similar, simply because it is the best.

Sewing machines are one such design.
    SLR cameras another
    Laptop computers yet another.

Sales pages have a single column because anything else distracts the reader from the purpose of getting a click on the buy button.

They are usually fixed width becasue if a page is too wide it is harder to read.

Even sales buttons are moving toward a single standard.

There are templates out there, loads of 'em. Always a WSO or two.

Asto what goes behind, well that is going to depend upon what you need and that is going to depend upon your business but as a basic setup you are going to need a sales page, a page from which to download your product, often called a 'thankyou' page. You will need a ilink to a payment processor who can send folks to your thankyou page after they have pressed your payment button and actually paid. That is it for the bare minumum.
You'd likely need to add stuff such as terms and conditions and other legal stuff.

After that the sky's your limit.

The benefits of a cms website such as Joomla are that you can can choose to add in which components or modules that you need, such as forums, blogs, shopping carts etc. Plus free is always a good option for a CMS system, though a few of the components are now commercial. I have been building ecommerce sites for a number of my clients on budgets over the last 5 years and have found their system as good as many commercial ones.

In regard to your concern about looking the same as other sites that comes down to your own or your webdesigners creativity in regard to the design and layout of the template for the site. Suggest you have a look at some of the Joomla template designers and see the flexibility and designs now available. I also agree with CarloD there is nothing to stop you creating unique pages and linking them to your CMS site.
