Feel free to purchase if you like ugly sites! lol...

I recommend Flexibility Theme for WordPressFlexibility Theme for WordPress

Flex is Free!, (Flexsqueeze is the paid option)

Really simple to setup a nice looking site, fully customizable, clean, modern,
just change your adblocks to look like links (same colors) and edit the "Featured" display boxes...

I get nice CTR's and rankings with this theme
with the help of a few secret plugins

If you want access to the latest heatmap theme stuff and personal support from the designer its well worth $35.

Heatmap Theme looks great if you know how to drive it properly. Its pretty much a blank canvas for your own adsense theme mods, which is just the way I like it.

I really like bluesense. It's not very pretty but it gives me CTR around 10 - 15%.

I don't use all the ad units as they suggest, though... Only one big rectangle under the post title (thanks Xfactor for the tip!).

I think the question is very appropriate ... not all Wordpress Themes are created equal either SEO or Adsense wise... and it does make sense to try and find an all-in-one solution thats been specifically built for the job.

Yes you can put together a solution from a theme and plugin combo but you might end up spending more time modding the theme than you would like.

If you do just go for a 'clean theme' of any kind just make sure that its underlying SEO strategy is good, or appropriate to what you are doing. Non-technical peeps might have probs figuring this out initially.

If you use a adsense theme of recent vintage (such as Heatmap) which has been specially built for the job then n00bs can be reasonably confident that they at least have a good start for SEO and can get their ads into the theme nice and easy without installing extra plugins.

How hard is it to install plugins for WP? I'm not actually sure what plugins even are if someone could help me out with that. Im new to IM. Right now I am considering going over to WP from blogger. I am running adsense right now on blogger and not having much luck getting traffic and clicks.

Any theme where you can position the Adsense block below the page title and above the post will work just great.

Only use the 350x280 adsense block, the rest are a waste of time.

Make sure your ads are above the fold, because they will get "heaps" more clicks than those ads below the fold..

    Hope this helps

Yup, thats very good advice for a site where you don't mind adsense being front and centre, and HeatMap Theme can certainly do that for new players without skipping a beat (if indeed themes could actually skip and had a beat ).

It comes into its own though for those that want to experiment with other more subtle ad positions, potentially less clicky, but on the other hand less obtrusive positions easily.

I've got no doubt that HeatMap is a great theme! I haven't personally used it so I can't say anything bad about it..

My philosophy on Adsense is simple..

"You don't get paid when people sit around reading your content. Its only happens when they click on an ad"

So, all i want from my visitors is to turn up and click and ad, so ad placement is very important and you should have very few other links for them to click on. The more places that a user can click on and go somewhere else (either on your own site or another site), lowers your CTR.

So the only options they should see is :
    1. your ads and
    2. the browser back button.

Simplistic it is, but that is the reason for the past 5 years my adsense account have never had a CTR of less than 20% and some very nice monthly adsense earning..

    Just my opinion on things

    Take care

    Bruce

      Any Bluesense experts out there.

I uploaded to an existing blog BUT all the stuff in the sidebar is now right at the bottom of the page. All out of alignment. I have emailed the creator but have had no reply as yet.

Anyone know how to fix this ?

      Thanks

Flexibility is good, but you might also think about getting an attractive and flexible theme and adding plugins to assist with Adsense and SEO. There's plenty of freebies out there like all in one SEO.

    • A theme that others don't use. If you're running WP, just use the WP insert plugin. You want a theme that looks good, not one that has people hitting the back button (most MFA themes).

      Cheers,

I like heatmap as well, its a well developed product and the SEO benefits of using heatmap are well defined, it does take some effort to produce results, and not every theme is right for every application.

sometimes you have to try out several themes to see which one works best.
