I am new to the affiliate game and I am writing to find something out. I keep seeing people refer to "wordpress" when it comes to websites. My question is are they talking about the blog website or something else. I ask because I have done my research and I am planning on working on my website this weekend. I would like to know what "wordpress" is.

    They are. If your hosting has cpanel then select Fantastico (that funny smiley icon) and you can install it in a few clicks. If not you will find out more at WordPress › Blog Tool and Publishing Platform

      There are two versions of Wordpress; the Wordpress.com site, which is where you can setup a free blog, or the stand-alone software which you install on your own server, downloadable from Wordpress.org. Both are free, open-source software.

      You want to learn how to install and build your own Wordpress site on your own domain for web marketing. Using the free site is an easy way to get started, but your options are limited when it comes to SEO, and you do not have control over the database.

    as badfun said
    wordpress.com --> free wordpress blogs -->stuff like myblog.wordpress.com
    wordpress.org --> download the wordpress folder --> upload to your hosting and set up your blog on your domain.

    wordpress.com free blogs dont encourage affiliate marketing or any business promotion on their free blogs. I have transferred many business wordpress.com blogs to their personal domains because of the fear of wordpress shutting down their site sometime in the future. Use squidoo for affiliate marketing. they havent taken offence yet.
