Default Looking for reviews on this new site

Hello everyone,

I have just started a site in a micro-niche market. I am looking for feedback on the site itself and the copy. (I know this could be painful because the warriors on here can be painfully honest! But that's why I'm here!) It is in the health remedy market.

One thing I notice is that firefox doesn't show my background where internet explorer does. Hmmmmm.....

Thanks in advance look forward to the reviews......I think....

Tip Re: Looking for reviews on this new site

Hi Bret,
The reason your background doesn't show up is the body tag is referencing an image file on your hard drive. It will probably show up on your computer but no one elses.

Change this part of the body Tag from

background-image: url(file:///C:/Users/Bret/Desktop/www

to

background-image: url(h t t p://www
I can't post links and the forum thinks this is a link so I've had to put spaces in the H T T P bit but you should see what I mean and just remove them.

That should work,

hope this helps

Dave, thanks I will try that. I noticed it was loading different from another site I have but wasn't sure why it was.

I think it is kind of plan jane looking.

I would suggest that you take your keyword, do a
search in Google. Look at the first 10 sites.

Study how they are set up. Don't steal there design,
learn from it, set up your site in a style that models
how they are in the top 10.

You will find out that most sites in ope this helps.

Thanks. I did get the background working. Just wanted it simple for this particular site. Curious to know did it show up on your browser? Everything was updated about a 1/2 hour ago.

Thanks for the advice. I actually did that. Most of the sites under my keyword/s are blogs, blogs and more blogs. I basically wanted a simple squeeze page which is clean and hopefully prompts an action of signing up on my list. If I wind up with more "product" or "ebooks" I may grow the sight to mulitiple pages but at this time I don't want distraction. Thanks for your input. I will keep it for future reference.

Definitely way to plain, you wouldn't convince me into buying anything from a site like that.

I would suggest buying a made up template buy someone.

Whatever about it being "plane jane" looking, the wording is going to put most internet users off immediately.

The whole text reeks of being a money making scheme, scam, or hard sell. I'm not saying that's what it is, but that is how it comes across, with bullet points, huge fonts, red type, WORDS IN CAPS!, etc.

There are plenty of free and cheap website templates online. I would consider getting one and adjusting your copy to be less hard hitting, and more sensitive.

Sorry if my response seems harsh, but I hope it helps. Best of luck with the website and your health.

Condra,

Thanks for taking time to look at the site and your input. Regarding the bullet points, for me it was to create a connection with the reader not to scam or hard sell. Same with the high lighted text. Put it this way, if someone is on the net that has this problem and looking for a solution they will see the text and say "that's me". I would have. Mainly because it's all true not made up crap (no pun intended). It's an embarrassing situation but all true it happened to me and it sucked.

What's funny is I have some people saying to be more hard hitting (graphic) which I can and still all be true but I toned it down from my very first site build that I had done. And yes I can get a template for a site, in fact I have one, but I wanted a basic squeeze page and not something with 3 or 4 link/tabbed pages. I'll test this one for awhile and try one of my templates and see which one converts more on the opt in and then I'll know.

Thanks again for your input.

Your sales copy bullet points don't mix with your sub headline. Try combining the sub-header and bullet point (on paper) and see if it reads correctly.

Here's an example:

Subheader: Are you sick and tired of....

Instead of: You're running to the bathroom at what feels like every 10 minutes?
Try
#1: Running to the bathroom every 10 minutes

Put it together for readability

Decide which one reads better:

#1 Are you sick and tired of you're running to the bathroom at what feels like every ten minutes.
#2 Are you sick and tired of running to the bathroom every ten minutes.

My main point is that your bullets should match with your headline; In this situation, as if it reads together.

I encourage anyone to reply with constructive criticism to my analysis.

Best Regards, Ameen

I thought there would be more comments about the design, but I suppose I will have to do the dirty work.

At first glance, the header image comes off as being cheap. Same with the background. If I had to guess I would say this might have been standard maybe 10 years ago. People are more familiar with the web and have higher expectations now.

I hope you don't mind me stating it so bluntly, but that is what first came to mind. To get an idea of what people might expect from a modern squeeze page, have a look at this: http://creationspire.com/wpspire/

I'm not associated with them, I just thought it provided an excellent example.

I can leave it at that, but just to give you a bit more detail on why I think people will see it this way I'll elaborate.

The header image is using typography with poor spacing. There is also a poorly done drop shadow, with background effects that do nothing to make the text stand out. Also, the image is pixelated, which can be easily remedied by saving it out to the proper web format.

Concerning the background image - You are using a single image for the background with absolute positioning. This means that the image is going to be positioned at the top and left of the browser. It looks to me as though you want a border around the site to give it a bit of visual interest, but it won't show up with the image positioned this way. Also, it's a simple gradient which does nothing to make your content stand out.

A few simple adjustments will help this design a great deal. If you expect to get results from this page I highly recommend finding a template or a professional to help. Best of luck.

Bret,

Just been to your website. Just my 2-cents worth comments. Hope to help u better with the graphical aspect.

1) Header is not attractive enough to capture eyeballs. Needs rework esp. the title and the special offer graphic.

2) Chrome effect bg is redundant and irrevelent. It does not blend with the body of the sales page.

3) Headline font size is too small. Need to be bigger by at least 2px size.

4) Lack of a strong and attractive image that adds visual richness to the header and also on the body content.

5) Lack of a consistent color scheme to create the look and feel of the site.

If u can improve on these, your sales page will definitely attracts more eyeballs.

Thx u. : )
