Let me get your opinion, Warriors.

Do you think simple HTML pages are worth it anymore? When you visit sites so basic like Craigslist, Does it still appeal to you?

Well I doubt Craigslist is done in HTML! It would be impossible to update it if it were in HTML!

I assume you are confusing the term "HTML" with the basic "Web 1.0" design, the non-AJAX page style? If it works and people like it then why change it!? Craigslist is one of the most visited English language sites in the world, so it works for them.

I'd also point out that Google's home page is pretty basic as well, and they seem to do OK!

Yeah I agree with mywebwork I think you have HTML and the web 1.0 style confused.

But I don't think simple HTML pages are worth it anymore really. Today you need a good design and at least some PHP otherwise it's such a pain to keep updated.

I think simple plain HTML works great unless you have lots of pages...

Even at that if you have lots of pages all you need to do is add a little css code to the HTML and you can still have a great looking site....

I am not an expert thats for sure but I have seen plenty of great looking sites done with plain html........

My friend's site is using .html in every url of his sitemap. He did some mod rewrite - to cover the php extension with html extension.

For a simple site with a few pages, HTML is fine. Although if you're going to be repeating any page elements, such as a menu or footer, it's SOOO much easier to do it with PHP or another web scripting language.

"Design for change" is my motto.

If you have 10 static HTML pages and need to modify the menu, you'll have to modify 10 files. Sort of a PITA.

Craigslist supports a lot of HTML in postings. Any
HTML page on Craigslist is dynamically generated
from a database where it is stored, however.

CL doesn't want to change the way it looks. It's
simplicity is part of it's appeal. It also loads
fast on dial-up connections due to the lack of
graphics, is usable by blind people, and so
forth, keeping with CL management's goal of
having a super-accessible platform for all
    people to use easily.
