URGENT: Trouble with coding w/ Viral Friend Generator

I have installed the Viral Friend Generator on my site and am having trouble with it. I have emailed their support and haven't gotten anything back.

Here's the problem:

I have installed the form on this site:
WAIT!! - Homeschool Biz Expo

I know there's an issue with the background on the content area of the page not showing up like I want, but I'm not that concerned with that. (But if you know how to fix it, I'd love it!)

The problem is that when people go through the process of filling out the form, the email that gets mailed out looks like this:
<br>Hi Jane,
<br>It's Barbara,
<br>I just found out about a series of calls by homeschool experts, and you
<br>were the first person I thought of when I
<br>saw it. I just knew you would want to see
<br>it, too, so check it out.
<br>Here is the site:
<br><a href='http://www.HomeschoolBizExpo.com'>http://www.HomeschoolBizExpo.com</a>
<br>Talk soon,
<br>barefoot

I don't know how to get rid of the <br> tags on the email content.

When I have tried to edit that part of the HTML code, this is what the page looks like:

WAIT!! - Homeschool Biz Expo

The page above is from literally downloading the other page and just changing the content area of the email being sent out.

What am I doing wrong??? I am so frustrated by this mess and apparently Mike Filsaime's support system doesn't support this product anymore. Ugh!

Thanks in advance!

    Hi Susan

I haven't used Viral Friend Generator although I am familiar with what it does.

The "red flag" I see when I read this is that the <br> tag is actually an XHTML tag, not an HTML tag - HTML uses the self-closing <br /> tag. I was just reading about HTML support levels in various mail clients and it ranges from excellent (Thunderbird, Windows Mail) to poor (GMail, Outlook 2007). I was just wondering if perhaps the mail was being formatted in XHTML and not HTML? The mail client may be interpreting the closing </br> tag as a self-closing <br /> tag.

Just speculation. What control over the formatting of the mail do you have, you mentioned editing some HTML?

Out of curiosity what mail client are you using to view the mail?

      Bill,

Thanks so much for your reply.

It actually looks the same in Gmail and Thunderbird.

When you go through the process of setting up the VFG page, you can edit the text, but it's a WYSIWYG editor of sorts...no HTML stuff.

I don't know about the XHTML stuff...never played on that playground!
