Hello. I'm new to the forum, affiliate marketing and websites/blogs. I have a niche and products that I will be using for my affiliate marketing.

I would like to have a photo gallery of the products (and brief description) I'd be marketing but would like to link each product to the company where they would actually make the purchase. For example: I may have 8 photos of handbags but they would each link back to the company selling that particular bag. I've seen other sites where the photo links to a description then they have a Buy Now button and that links to company site.

In case that makes no sense at all here is a link to a site that is similar to what I'm looking to do. oops don't have enough post to put link.

Something I started to wonder is if I can do this thru a plug-in or code, how to ensure that I get credit for purchase. Will the link that the company gives me to use for marketing be used in a case like this?

I'm using Wordpress and will be using the Thesis theme.

Sorry for the dumb question and any incorrect terminology. I guess we all have to start somewhere.

    Hi GreenMama,

Remember this is no such things as dumb question, just dumb answers..

    Anyway,

here is one potential way to make your images into links off to affiliate products:

For each image, you will see in the HTML code that it looks something like :

    <img src="/images/some-picture.jpg" >

Well, change it to look the the following :

    <a href="http://www.your-affiliate-link-to-product-1.com"><img src="/images/some-picture.jpg"></a>

Now the picture is a link and will work "hopefully" as you described..

    I hope this helped

    Bruce

I believe you are talking about an tool for amazon advertisers where you move your mouse over the image and it appears a small description with a buy now button.

I think amazon offers this to it's affiliates but I don't know of any script that would do it.

thanks for suggestion. I will give them a try.

as for Amazon plug in, is that for just products thru Amazon affiliate program?

The site I was trying to link in my question was a good example of what I wanted to achieve. Let me see if I can explain it since I can't give you link to look at.

--The site sells wedding favors and they have gallery about 4 pics wide and 10 long. It has pics of the favors (about 1" x 1") and description and price underneath like:

"Butterfly Place Card Holders" and underneath pic it says $18.00 and under that it says By: BeauCoup (the name of the company that actually sells the product).

--When the visitor clicks on the picture it links to a more detailed description and a buy now button which then takes you to BeauCoup site (or whatever the company would be) and then they can purchase from there.

--I'm more interested in going right from the pic on my site to the site of the company selling it so they can make their purchase.

--None of them are Amazon products.

If I can work it like the first reply suggestion I was given, how will I know if I'm getting credit for transaction. Do they track it by the link they give you or is there something else when they first go to my site that would track them.

I guess I'm confused about how the affiliate company will know the customer came from my site so I get credit. Is it programmed in the links and banners they provide you or is there another way they track. I know cookies are involved but again newbie that's still figuring out how all this works.

Sorry again for rambling, just trying to give you a better picture of what I'm trying to achieve without you actually getting to see it.

Yes indeed it is tracked by the code they provide, which should contain an
UNIQUE ID to you. Normally good and serious affiliate programs also
provides tracking and stats tools so you can see your number of click and
sales ratio, and of course the number of sales you generated.

However, it is strongly recommended that you use a link cloaker device
that will not only HIDE your affiliate links in your promotional campaigns,
but will also track the clicks number from your side.

If you're new to all this, and are a bit short in time, I'd strongly suggest
you outsource this process. Of course you can always take time to learn
and do everything by yourself, however there's much things to learn for
one that wants to start quickly. I have created a special package
specifically targeted for that, check out my sig below to find out if that
would be something of interest to you. Do not hesitate to ask more
        questions.

        Best regards,

        Andre Foisy

Thanks. I don't have the money for your program but will keep it in mind. I already have domain names and hosting and just bought a theme. Someone mentioned using Popshops or Datafeedr to make things easier so maybe I will try on of those.

Most of the merchants I want to work with use Share-A-Sale. Do I register with merchant directly or go thru Share-A-Sale and then select merchants I want?

    thanks again

      Greenmama,

Not that I want to push, and quite frankly I don't need to , however
as far as I can see the direction you're going to, you'll quickly discover
that it will cost you MUCH more in time AND MONEY, than it would have
cost to outsource for a completely ready to go solution like the one I offer,
for that, let's say it, ridiculously low price... but that is al up to you of
course, but think twice, get advices and reread cafully offers in the like of
mine... you already PAID for things that are included in my package and
you're NOT finished yet believe me.

Moreover, you still do not have the knowledge required to operate all this!
Remember, I offer training with my package...

I also just added in the package, and for the same price, a complete
follow up autoresponder solution, as powerful as aweber and the like, but
without the monthly price, that works with your domain name.

Realize... you'll still need such system/service, and it's not quite set up
yet, even if you've bought a "theme" ...

For your question about share a sale. I do not know about share a sale, I
assume it is a affiliate program network of some sort, I'd say that you
likely should go through them and not the merchant, if they use that
network for their affilaite program, they will send you back to share a sale
      anyway.

A question: What's the use of Popshops and Datafeedr?

      Good luck !

      Andre
