total noob on link cloaking ... wordpress help .

ok basicly i have installed wordpress on my domain.
so i have a blogsite . all good. the confusion comes in
when i go to use wordpress in conjuction with files
iv transfered to my domain server using ftp.

specificly iv saved a cloaked affiliate link on my domain
using ftp but cant find in to use in word press ?

how can i do this .

another challenge im having is wordpress wont let my upload pics from my home pc i have to use urls instead . when i try it says

Unable to create directory /home/reverset/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2010/02. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

now i have my permisions set on 755 ...

but incase i have forgotten somthing could someone please give me
instructions on how to use your ftp'd file links from your domain on word press , how to get wordpress to accept my pics off my pc ...?????

    your uploads directories' permissions need to be set to 777 so that you can upload your pics.

    the other question I don't quite understand...you've ftp'd static pages that aren't a part of WordPress?

    if so, you would just link to them like so:
    http://www.yourdomain.com/nameofstaticpage.html

      As Karen said, if you are uploading your cloaked links to the root of the domain, just add a link to that file http://yourdomain.com/cloakedlink.html wherever you need.

      As for the other issue, I would check in your WP settings (Miscellaneous) to make sure your uploads folder is wp-content/uploads - I sometimes get this issue when setting up sites that I have bought.

    Hello Gab,

    I'm not sure of what I read here, or what you mean really.

    A link, whatever it is affiliate or cloaked or not, a link is a code we put
    into an html page, not something we load though FTP...

    Unless you talk about an affiliate pre-sell page to which you want to link
    to. Then once it is loaded through ftp, the page indeed, all you have to do
    is create the link in the WP editor by indicating the full URL path to that
    specific page.

    To cloak affiliates links or any other links you could use bit.ly or cli.gs, these services also provide clicks statistics.

    HI there ...I'm not 100% sure if I know 100% what you mean about link cloaking but wondered if this'll help.

    1- I have found and installed prettylinkpro ...this lets me send users to any link on the blog (or anywhere else) and cloak the links without needing to ftp anything to the blog

    2- I upload images into my blogposts using the icons above the new post - this opens the window allowing me to:
    -browse my PC for the image
    - add properties to the image including the image URL when clicked or
    - or if only wanting to display links to the images copy and paste the links to the images you want straight into the blogpost in "visual mode"
