Hello everyone, I want to get hosting with Hostgator, but I am not quite sure which package to get? I am planning to create multiple websites in the future. I was planning to get the Baby package which allows you to have multiple domains, (websites) on one account. I found out that going this route is not a good choice. I found out that if someone is thinking of making more than one website, ever, one should consider going with a Reseller account. The Reseller account would allow one to have multiple websites with much more control. Is this really the case? Should I go with a Reseller account, even if it's much more expensive? I am just starting out and I don't even have one website created yet. Could I start with the Baby account and then later on upgrade to a Reseller account as more websites are made and making money? I don't really understand why a Reseller account is better, because I thought a normal account, such as the Baby account, still allows to have an unlimited amount of domains (websites)? What is the difference? Any suggestions or if anyone has any advice, please offer any help...greatly appreciated!! Thank you. |

There will only be one control panel (yours) but you can create multiple FTP accounts that are restricted to the new domains. The way I use Baby is to house all of my web design projects, building out new sites with their own domain names and subdirectories. When I sell off a website, I allow the buyer to use the special FTP account to grab what they need from that single subdirectory, so they can download all files and backups, then later upload on their own web server. The other option would be to accept a web hosting payment from the buyer to keep the website as it is right now on my host, then later we can discuss moving to another host. I wouldn't recommend using Baby as a miniature reseller account, where you take monthly hosting fees to host other websites. The reason for this is because it gets complicated and difficult to separate the others from your own master account; Baby simply isn't setup that way. With reseller hosting each new account you create will have their own cpanel. That's a big difference, and gives the new owner a lot of control over their own details so they don't have to nag you for everything. It is more expensive for you to setup a reseller account, so you should be ready to justify those costs with new clients who are ready and waiting to give you immediate monthly hosting fees in exchange for the accounts you create. Hope that wasn't too much to explain, but in a nutshell: Baby is for you alone to play with, Reseller is for you to divide up with new clients. The online help, knowledge base, and discussion forum at Hostgator also has a lot of goodies that will give you a better understanding. Let me know if that helps!

Thank you for your explanation! Some internet marketers say to get a reseller account, even if you're not selling any hosting space. I just want to create probably 50+ websites in the future...so I just want to make sure I have the right hosting account. I guess if someone is only going to have a few websites a normal hosting account would be fine, but having a lot of websites possibly a reseller account is the way to go. Thanks again.

I'd definitely advise reseller - and it has nothing to do with selling hosting. A reseller account has a WHM panel that allow access to all of your sites from one screen. It an efficient way to host multiple sites. I want my sites to be stand alone sites and want no problem with running scripts, etc on them - and I want cpanel for each site. That means a reseller account as I don't want to mess with add-on domains. If you start with the smallest reseller at HG, you can add quite a few sites and then upgrade to the next level easily if and when you need to. kay |

I used the baby package, adding the domain is not a problem what so ever, and I get an access for all my sites easily. Unless you are going to resell, I don't see why you would want the reseller account.

The domains you add...are they just attached to your directory or route domain? Are the added domains that are added, stand alone's? ex. www.yourwebsite1.com OR www.yourwebsite.com/....../ www.yourwebsite2.com www.yourwebsite3.com etc. Thank you
