Which domain name should I choose?

Hi,
Firstly I hope that I explain this so that you can understand. After some digging around I choose some keywords for a domain name. Lets say for example bestdressdomain (I don't want to reveal the actual keywords). When I looked it up in namecheap the .com, .net and .org where taken. So I looked for and found another another set of keywords for example yourdressdomain (not as many searches as the first but still good) and .com and .net were taken but not .org. What is the best course of action to take? Should I register the .org or should I put the first keyword in front of the second set of keywords and then I can register it as a .com as this domain name is not taken? So for example bestyourdressdomain.com.
I do hope this is clear.
Regards.

Always pick a domain name with your main keyword in it, and try to come up with one that you can use for branding purposes.

    It depends ...

If you want "type in traffic" go with the ".com"

If you want Google ranks, and they're good keywords, go for the .net or .org if the .com is not available.

If you don't know what type in traffic is, suppose the keyword is "life insurance" and 100,000,000 people a month search for "life insurance" (OK, a little over the top). Some number of people will go to the URL bar and just type in "LifeInsurance.com" because it is their search phrase, to see if a site exists.

That's the whole domain speculating business in a nut shell...

Not sure if you made your final decision yet, but I believe the type in domain will serve your efforts best, especially from a branding perspective. Best of luck!

You can also try going for country specific domains like .in for India.

        All the best

Just keep in mind - the ".com" are generally the only ones with type in value.

A domain like "travel.biz" would certainly help you with SEO, but I would expect little to no type in traffic on that domain. If type-in is critical, focus on ".com"

True, if you are outside the US (say India) then a ".in" name could bring in type in traffic from india, but not globally. The ".com" is the global domain (despite what some think, it is NOT a US domain...) that most people think of when doing type-in traffic.

Go for .com, it has more value!

  • Also think about choosing domain names with "-" in between keywords. Even if bestdressdomain.com isn't available best-dress-domain-.com maybe.

Make sure you target your intended longtail keywords as you may find this is a better option for search engine dominance. For example best-dress-domain-newyork.com or howtodressbest.com.

    Good luck

It really depends what that website is for. If it is e-commerce, I would choose a totally different name because it would hurt rankings and sales. Usually, if it is a popular name, the original owner of example also buys my-site.com domain just to have the rights to it.

I would go for the .com as well, there are still so many domains available with good keywords. It just takes time to find them.

Usually I start by going to google's keyword tool and spend some time creating a list of keywords that has a lot of searches, 5000/month or more. When I have a list of 200-300 queries (exact match works best for me), I'm ready for the next step...

So I simply paste the keywords into my DomainDigger to get instant feedback about which keywords have matching available domains, with and without the "-" in the domain name.

Once I have a list of available domain names with matching queries (and high search volume) it's easy to pick the one that I think will be the most easy to remember.

I'm not expert..But,let me share my experience..The three most important thing you must consider to choose domain name are :
    1. Including your main keyword(for SEO)
    2. Easy to remember
    3. Not too long(max.3 words)
point 2 and 3 have purpose that your web audience will revisit your website...It will help you to get huge traffic..
    Thanks and good luck..
