Is Godaddy Fast Enough For This?

Hello,
We have a CPA type sales page coming out soon. I'm no expert in which servers will meet our expectations. Basically the sever would need to be able to answer for 25K-50K hits Daily, load the page quickly, etc.

We already registered our domain names with Godaddy so i figured if they can offer a fast server i would just register with them. I called in with their tech support and the man assured me that the "Unlimited Plan" would more than suit our needs. Originally i called to get info on a Dedicated Server, again the Rep told me that the Unlimited Plan would be able to load the page up quickly and be able to handle our demands of 100s of Hits per minute.

This is really important since i can't have our page loading up slow for anyone. It must be lightning fast server response.

I really wanted to get a second opinion on the matter.
What do you think?
Kind Regards,
John Walton

If you are having so much traffic you should use another hosting service. You can check out HostGator which is by far better than Godaddy. You will have slow load especially if your site's graphics are not optimized properly.

      Thanks for the quick response.
The web page's content will be as optimized as i can get it.
I have heard good things about HostGator.

Hmmm. Since my domains are on Godaddy, would there be any lag time if i didn't transfer the domains to a more superior hosting site?

..If my domains on Godaddy lag at all due to the domain pointing to XYZ Hosting site, then i'll simply transfer them.

      Thanks again Guys

Well that depends .. are we talking shared or dedicated? On ANY shared service its a crapshoot.

@johnwalton: Where you register your domains has no bearing on where they are hosted, and doesn't come into play when someone visits your site.

    HostGator > GoDaddy

I've been a happy hostgator user for many years and currently host around 40 or 50 websites with them. Their service is second to none.

I bought an SSL the other day from Register.com and asked HostGator to install it - I just gave them a temp password to my regsiter.com account and they logged in, got the cert and setup everything for me. Can't beat that.

GoDaddy is like dealing with a cable company where HostGator is a computer genius best friend.

      Hey Thanks Bro!
I completely agree, Godaddy is like the Walmart of Web Hosting haha
Regarding Hostgator > I've hosted website since I was 14 and I can't believe I haven't tried HostGator!!? They were so helpful...Almost as helpful as the people on this forum.

Ok so i'm looking into getting the "Basic Dedicated Sever".
Dedicated Servers - Dedicated Web Hosting with Linux or FreeBSD

Its a funny thing, when i spoke with Godaddy on the phone about my hosting needs they actually talked me out of getting their Dedicated Server and instead go with the "Unlimited Shared Hosting" Plan. He put me under the impression that there is SOO much more stuff on MY end that needs to be done, such as server maintenance/Setup. (Whatever that means lol).
HostGator let me know that with them, they do everything from start to finish. I think the Choice here is obvious.

      @ryanvroman
Hey man you seem to really know what you're talking about. 40-50 Websites will speak for themselves lol
Could You Give Me Some Expertise Advice Here?
Basically what i'm doing here is setting up the online system for our CPA offer and everything else online related. I think there is much more involved in this.
      **** Berry Pure
^^^ This is a VERY similar online system to what i'm making.
Like i said we're expecting 25k-100k hits Daily, possibly double that. I'm pretty sure the dedicated server will suffice however..
Are there other eCommerce Sales page methods i should know about? As you mentioned SSL, which i just learned after looking it up.
Are there more little essentials like this you could tell me about?

      What I have:
My website is in creation, then i'm having it optimized before or after all the code (Payment Processing) is in place, Then i would upload site to Hostgator and be online.
      Is there more to this?
      Kind Regards,
      John Walton

    Hi,

I would definately go with the shared server, probably with Hostgator (I personally use and can recommend IMHosted) rather than Godaddy and then if you find you need to upgrade you can do so. No point paying for the big servers right up front when a shared server might be fine for your needs.

When looking at hosts you should also look for the hosts ability to absorb traffic spikes. Many hosts now use clustered hosting systems which means your website (and server loads) can be spread out over a few different servers. Get a host like that and you might never need a dedicated server.

Also just so you know how it works. When you register a domain you tell the registrar where to point the domain by setting the DNS records. The DNS records are stored on computers throughout the world (not Godaddys computers) so it doesnt matter where you host, there is no lag time.

If someone types in your domain name, the computers then go to the DNS computers and look to see where it is hosted and then redirect to your websites hosting computer/server. So if you host with Godaddy or someone else you still have exactly the same lag time whilst the computers look up the DNS.

Finally I would suggest that in choosing a company to host with you test their customer support. If you are getting high traffic and your site goes down for some reason the most important thing will be how quickly you can get support staff to look at your site.

    Cheers

    Max
