Another question for you guys.
I added the plug in for G analytics to my site and added the tracking code of course, but google keeps telling me that the tracker hasn't been installed yet. can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Maybe I'm just new but what file? do you mean the script you copy and paste? If that's what you mean then yes and no. In the WP plugin I'm using you just have to enter the tracker ID number - that UA whatever number.

So if it's something different then that, I probably haven't. I'll log into analytics right now to see if I can figure out what you mean, but further clarification would be helpful.

James,

When setting up these accounts Google (and others) have a process by which they verify that you are who you say you are, i.e. the site owner/webmaster. This is to ensure that not just anyone can activate analytics (or other items such as an XML sitemap) for your site(s).

When I last did this they gave you two options:-

1) add some html to the head section of your page.
2) upload an empty text file to your webserver with a specific file name which they identified.

Hope this helps.

Google supplies you with a blank file to upload to your server so they can pickup the file name of that file to verify your site.

Google analytic's doesn't use the html verification. It's google's webmaster central site features that use verification. I have 3 sites verified and 50 running google analytics. Copy and paste the GA code in to the word press footer template file after the closing </body tag> and before the closing </html> tag. Give it a day or so, and it will be tracking.
