Dreamweaver is good because it is a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor. It allows you to see what you are editing as oppose to the traditional editors, which require you to fully understand the code you are dealing with.

For open-source WYSIWYG editors I hear that the 'best' one out there is Aptana IDE. Give it a shot; it's free.

Good luck.

Well I've used the following html editors. They do all the basic jobs, they are non techy and best of all they are free.

- Page Breeze
- Front page
The best ones are
- Nvu - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
- KompoZer - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

So no need to buy expensive software when all you are working with is templates.

I've worked on them doing templates, squeeze and landing pages, aweber code, paypal code and basic stuff for IM websites with ease and I'm a non techie person

Hope it Helps.

If you understand HTML (and preferably PHP), you'll just need:
  1. Notepad - FREE
  2. MoWeS Portable - FREE
MoWes is what I use to preview my html/php codes before uploading it to my webhost. MoWeS allows you to setup a WAMP (Windows, Apache, MySQL and PHP) system on any Windows system. I installed Mowes on my USB so I can use it on any computer. It's FREE!
