Default Looking for a great website designer

Hi all - i have a seo website which can be found in my signature.

I am looking for a redesign as i feel my current site is not sending the right professional message over to the customer.

With all honesty my site looks nice however it looks more of a fun site then a services site.

Its very important that my site capitalises on all customers- I love the get a free report on the right hand side of every page. Its a good call for action.

I am targeting keywords such as seo services - seo company - seo consultant. I want a website that looks better then any site on the top 2 pages of google.

I am happy to pay a fair price - the only requirement i have is for the website to look very professional and to portray the right message over.

Many of my visitors are uk businesses. so its important to keep it professional.

My current site has much text - we can seperate the text and form new pages.

I need the site to load fast and would like it done through dreamweaver using divs and not tables.

A template will also be needed so that I can add new pages on the fly.

Please PM me if you feel you can do it.

If you feel you require seo services then we can work out a trade of skills.

I see your site SEO services company UK | Search engine optimisation consultant UK | Internet marketing
I think it's quite professional, except for some glitches here & there & the fact that it's created using tables
the thing that makes it "fun" is probably the audio from the video

What did you have in mind when you thought about something more "professional" ?

It's an interesting one this. I see a lot of people who grasp the ropes of putting together something that can be viewed online and then proclaim themselves a 'web designer'. But for me a 'web designer', especially front end web design, is someone who can take the information the site is required to display and lay it out in a way that makes that information as easy to take in as possible. Information architecture as such. Then they enhance the visual side of things and give it that 'polish' that a good looking site normally has. A good web designer will also have a firm understanding of usabilty and web standards so they create something that people can enjoy using. So there's a big gap in the standard of work produced by someone who can throw something together and those who work to some specific standards - and are hopefully also a very talented visual designer.

It's a bit like getting a tattoo really, i'm sure anyone could learn to hold the tattoo gun fairly quickly and produce something you could call a tattoo. But that's missing the point that ideally you'd want them to be a good artist also!

Excellent reply Branding bible - Very well said - I myself have designed a number of sites but can never call myself a website designer as I can not do the things you mentioned above - I loved the part about Information architecture.

thanks

99designs has some nice designs once in a while and some of them are pretty cheap.

hmm where can i start

firstly if you use tables for the layout then you are using invalid xhtml - tables are only valid in xhtml when using tabular data.

Tables are not straight forward to work with. If you are trying to change an already designed site which was designed using tables then it can be difficult. Also there are so many open and close tags that if your trying to edit a site it can take ages.

tables also load slower if comparing to using divs and css

Yes you can use css to style the table but why use tables when you can use divs

if your creating your layout with tables then its more often then not that you will also use tables within tables(nested tables) this has a bigger impact on load time - they will load much slower

Tables dont print well

I just typed in 'designing a website using tables good or bad?' in google and clicked on the first link. the majority of the information above is from an article i just read.

Please note that website loading speed will soon become part of the google ranking factors - maybe it will only play a small part but its still important.

Also when creating a website using tables then as your aware in seo the top few lines of text have a very big impact on your onsite optimisation. If you have a left navigation bar then more likely then not the search engine robots find this towards the top when they crawl your site.

On the other hand when using divs then you can have them placed last in the coding but float them into position so the search engine robots will read what you want them to read first.

There are many more reason why you should use tables - google it!!

thanks

By the way guys - ive found myself a designer

thanks
