Hi,

What themes do you guys recommend to build a traditional looking website on Wordpress?

By traditional I mean like html sites, which doesn't have that Blog feel/design that Wordpress always portrays.

    Hi Tyler,

A bit of a self-promoting answer, but I've just developed a theme that's on offer in the WSO section (check my signature) that lets you build a page based Wordpress site, with the option of configuring sidebars / hiding sidebars.

It has a news section, but you can choose whether to display this in the menu or not, so you have quite a bit of flexibility.

If you're looking for something free, it's worth searching these forums, as people have asked about this before.

    Tim.

It may take searching a few pages, but Wordpress Themes - SimpleThemes has a few great layouts without the 'busy' feel of a typical WordPress blog.

In my opinion, if you have the patience, it is best that you learn how to get hands on with your .php template files so that you can remove those parts of code that you don't like (e.g. the sidebar, comments section, etc).

To say "traditional" leaves a lot to interpretation. If you simply mean all static pages with no posts and no side-bars then any theme with the built-in option to turn off side-bars will work. I love the theme f2 for this reason. It is a free easily customizable light theme - I have a blog post showing the options page you can look at.

You could also, as suggested, go to wordpress.org >> themes and search for simple 1 column themes. Just be sure any theme you use is not too old as it may not work well with the current wp version.

    Hope this helps

If you're looking for the free variety of themes, searching wordpress under 1 column themes is the best route.

You might also consider a simple Google search for wordpress theme 1 column. You might find a few that cost a little, but offer more.

I'm with the others assuming you mean a wordpress site made of pages instead of posts. It's fairly simple to do
