Hey guys,

I just got a new domain from GoDaddy, pointed it to my Hostgator account and installed a Wordpress blog but now when I type in the full website name http:///www.proofreadingprose.com the www. part collapses. It then looks like this HostGator Website Startup Guide. I'm sure I found the answer to this somewhere a while ago but can't seem to find it anywhere today. Can anyone help please?

when i go to that link the www drops, like you said, but what I'm seeing is a stock wordpress page with the 'hello world' first post. it seems to be working fine. you just need to do your wordpress customization to 'spice it up' a bit

I figured it out. The website address just needs to be changed when you login to Wordpress. I just clicked on 'links' and added the www. part. I really thought it would be something that needed changing in cpanel.

Anyway, all sorted now(I think!), sporting a nice Wootheme.

Add non www to www in your .htaccess, then create a sitemap and submit it in your google webmaster tools. Hopefully this will help.

you should still set rewrite rules in your .htaccess, standard thing to do on all new domains.

Thanks for your responses - I didn't think there would be any more posts after mine so hadn't checked back for a while.

I don't understand this rewrite .htaccess you guys mention. I changed the permalinks to custom and added: /%category%/%postname%/. Is this something related or is there a step-by-step guide someone could link as I really don't want to tinker around with the file/s unless I'm completely sure what to do.

Oh I forgot about the sitemap too, thanks for pointing that out.
