    Hi Davey,
I was using 5gigsdotnet. It's a cpanel and they allowed me two websites for free. It worked well and did not seem to have any unwelcome bots. I would recommend against upgrading from them as it reverts to byethost.com. Their server is corrupted and even when I complained they were unwilling to do anything about it. Just two weeks ago I purchased three years webhosting from webhostingpaddotcom . It was a very good price. It's a cpanel. So far I have been very happy with it. It works as I expect it to. I have not encountered any problems. I'm not an affiliate. I'm just trying to help. Good Luck

  • Hi Davey

Depends how much your time is worth to you. Making nice websites that are relevant to your niche is no easy task. You may find your time is better spend doing marketing and promotions. You alternative is to buy a template and then adjust it to your needs. Problem with that is you may see lots of other websites that look like yours.

I always advise people to take on the tasks you are best at and leave the rest to people who do that for a living. Could the 40 hours you may spend learning to build a basic website be spent in better ways?

    Hi Davey,

I guess it all depends on why you are building a website. Is it more out of personal interest and you want to learn how to build one or are you trying to start a website to make some money online? If it's to learn about web design and what is out there then you can always experiment and try out a few free website building sites.

If you don't have your own domain name you can always use wix.com to build a free one to get a taste for things or blogger if you want to start your own blog website.

If you have your own domain then you can try godaddy's free hosting and site builder but it is restricted as with most free hosting accounts and you have to purchase your domain through them. They do not use cpanel though and to be honest i believe cpanel would be the best to use so maybe find a free cpanel host.

If not, and you are really wanting to make money online then I would take Orlandos tips and get someone to do it for you so you can start making the money instead of playing around with your website design.

    Couldn't agree more...

Learn how to do a thing or two here and there, but if marketing, promotion, traffic, whatever is your thing, worry about that and farm out the rest. The time lost in learning, or the money lost doing a poor job is not worth the headache.

However, if you really do want to do it yourself, I would personally recommend something like squarespace(.com). I haven't used them myself, but have heard lots of kick ass things about their site builder thingy, and their service from multiple sources. The last thing you want is to end up frustrated with no money because your site sucks, especially when a little planning could avoid the problems.

FYI: Webhostingpad blows like my wife used to. As cheap as it gets, and for good reason.

I'd say don't build a static site. Use wordpress blog. If you have cpanel with fantastico it's very easy to install with 1 click basically. And there are many free good looking themes you can use or you can buy a premium one if you like.

I agree, you can use Wordpress as your webpage, not for blogging only. It's free, and supported by a lot of free plugins for whatever function you want your site to run. It also great in terms of SEO, Wordpress is search engines friendly.

For a starter, you can have your first site online in half an hour. It's that simple.

      I agree!

Wordpress allows you to change the look and feel of a site easily with hundreds/thousands of free themes, and plugins and allows you to get a site up and running quickly.

My host uses cpanel and this loads wordpress with an automated tool fantastico ...I think others have mentined this too

I have a favourite plugin - Affiliate Link Cloaker and URL Shortener for WordPress: Pretty Link Pro

I use the free version to send people to websites and pages quickly and easily while maintaining my URL - with really short easy to use/remember links

eg Affiliate Link Cloaker and URL Shortener for WordPress: Pretty Link Pro sends people to Affiliate Link Cloaker and URL Shortener for WordPress: Pretty Link Pro

I know next to nil html and technical stuff but I can blog easily and can control my sites, look, feel and content so easily!

      My suggestion:
      - buy a domain name you like
      - get a host that is affordable (it seems a few earlier posters mentioned hostgator)
      - add a blog to your domain (add themes and plugins that suit your web goals)
      - start blogging about stuff that interests you
      - read warrior forums ...I've learnt heaps just reading others questions

Yes I agree, WP is the way to go as it takes much of the technical web page building away and provides a nice interface to build what you want.

hostgator has this feature called fantastico, in that you can find WP just click a few buttons and you are off with a basic WP site installed for you.

Once you get in the WP world so to speak, you can google all sorts of tutorials and things you can do with it.

  • Other thoughts...

    Online businesses are exactly that...businesses!

If you don't plan on making this a serious business, don't start it because it is ALOT of work. Sure you may get lucky like the other 0.001% of online marketeers who actually make money online their first try, but chances are it will involve you putting in many months or hard work to make your online business work.

You wouldn't open a brick and mortar store with no shelves or a restaurant with no seats would you?

Online businesses are the same. Don't go at it half arsed. Invest the money if you think the business will work. If not, find a another business.

It always amazes me how people want to start online businesses with no monetary investment.

When I first started this, I was the same. It took me a long time to realize that if my websites didn't look right, or the sales text wasn't written well, the products wouldn't convert.

Once I realized to hand off the tasks that I wasn't absolutely brilliant at to others, my businesses began to flourish.

I just wish I could get all the time back that I wasted on trying to do tasks that were beyond me.

If you want to use a very user-friendly system to build a website of your own. I do recommend you to use Blog system, such as Wordpress.

It is so easy to edit & manage content, even much better than many Content Management System available nowadays.

If you are not from IT background, do not recommend you to learn HTML or photoshop design. because it is challenging for non-IT person.

As mentioned above, installing WP from your cpanel using Fantastico is good way to get started. WP has many plugins and themes available for free.

You may also check out XSitePro, which is optimized for web marketing and you have to pay for (lots of affiliate sites selling), or get a free piece of software like Kompozer.

      Good luck!

Most hosting providers (Bluehost, Hostgator etc) have this applications ready to one click install. All you have to do is login to your panel, find "Wordpress" and click install. And thats it.

Wordpres aka "the blog platform" IS an aplication of the type called "content management sytem" that works as a software installend on your server (as oposed to being installend on your PC). So, it`s jus ONE wordpress.

Fantastico is another aplication/softaware already installed on your server by your host that knows how to install other application (think about it as the Windows Installer )

          so.. hope it makes sense....

Here are the keys to building your first successful e-business:
f you use the wrong process, you doom yourself before you even start. I could take pages to explain this, but I'll send you to that company, site sell.com, for an excellent explanation of Content-Traffic-PREsell-Monetize. (Don't go any deeper into their site. It has so much superb information, but I have more to tell you. So please come back.)
Once you understand the process, your entire approach changes. But you need the right tools to execute the process. These tools help you choose the right niche (and to avoid the wrong ones), to eliminate all the technical barriers that will stop you and allow you to focus on business, to do so much more for you that I can't even being to explain them all. Now, I use my own tools. They cost thousands of dollars and took me years to master. I lost thousands more on the wrong tools (but that sounded good at the time). If I was starting over today, I would skip that learning curve and just use Site Build It! (the "It!" is the independence that comes from building a successful Web business. This product has come so far over the years that I've followed it. It covers all the basics and is always on the cutting edge. They continuously add new tools, eliminating your need to follow all the latest trends, avoiding wasting your time on things that don't work. They integrate every major trend, from blogging to social media marketing, into their product. Their customers benefit, often just by clicking a button to add the new functionality to their businesses.

3- you must update your contents.. and try not to copy and paste the content as it is
4- you shud provide the info at the main page, so visitors can get what they are looking for.
5- create sitemap to help your visitors

    Hi,

I would definately go with Wordpress. Get it free using the Fantastico self installer or use a host like www.lavabug.com where they install it on sign-up for you.

Then at least you now own your own domain and hosting and have a site set up. Then go search for Wordpress themes or wordpress designers on Google and get someone to design something for you.

That way you control the site and can update it as much as you need, but you can still get a professionally designed site if you want. Plus if you take the time to learn it well, you could design your own themes.

In fact take a look at www.artisteer.com. Its a program that will allow you to design your own themes from scratch.

    Cheers

It depends what sort of a site you want (i.e. blog/static) and what your OS is. If you've got a Mac and you want a static, custom-designed site, I'd say you should get RapidWeaver by RealMac Software. It's a great WYSIWYG designer, and it's really easy to use. If you want a blog, definitely go for a Wordpress self-hosted one, no matter which OS you use. Just my advice.

Buy a domain from namecheap.com (this month's coupon is APRILFUN to save 88 cents off your domain purchase), I prefer their clean interface and zero upselling, vs. godaddy. But GoDaddy is another option.

Never buy hosting with the domain company, instead buy it from a separate company. This way you always have complete control if one goes down... (ie. if your host goes down, you can redirect your domain temporarily. And visa versa). Right now there is a super great 50% off deal happening at Fat Cow Hosting, a host that I recommend to all my clients. Reg $7.33/mo but this link gets it to you for only $3.67! (click the link to get to the deal page). Great support, unlimited everything (space and bandwidth) plus full CPANEL and extras.

FatCow Hosting will send you an email with all your setup details. The important one you need to know is the NAMESERVERS (ns1.yourhosting.com). Copy those nameservers and store them somewhere, you'll need them for later.

Login to your namecheap account and go to your newly purchased domain name. You'll then see on the left hand menu a link to change your nameservers for that domain. Click that, and type in your new hosting company's name servers. This LINKS your DOMAIN to your HOSTING SERVER.

NameCheap is great because it's nameserver updating is really really fast, normally within seconds or minutes you'll be able to go to your domain and see the changes (your domain will now show a blank white page with /cgi-bin). That means it's ready to go! (Normally this process takes 24-48 hrs)

Then download Wordpress from wordpress.org, unzip it, upload it to your host via an FTP client (if you use FireFox I recommend FireFTP.. great FTP client built into FireFox!) and upload all the files within the wordpress upload folder.

Go to http://www.yourdomain.com/ and you'll now see the Wordpress installation system. If you don't, something wasn't done properly in the earlier steps.

Before you can do the Wordpress install you need a MYSQL DATABASE. To set one up, you just go to www.yourdomain.com/cpanel, login, and you'll see an icon called Databases. Click it, create a new database, create a new username/password, and then link them together using the tool at the bottom of that page.

Now go back to your Wordpress install and fill in the database info and install Wordpress and presto! You're up and running! Visit your Wordpress control panel at http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin and start by uploading a new theme and adding pages

If anyone needs coaching on this, let me know via PM.

I agree with the Wordpress idea - it's easier to set up, Google friendly, and though you'll still need to learn a few things for set up, will allow you to spend more time on the business end.

Creating a website from scratch goes deeper than just learning to code html.

Many IM'ers learn a little code and throw a site together with no idea of usability and design best practices, efficient code, etc that can greatly affect the conversion rate.

While I have built a few wordpress blogs without help I had never built and published an actual website. I'm a self learner so I followed some tutorials that were way to techy and got the site up but the graphics wouldn't show. I remembered coming across a free e-book that claimed it could teach you and get you up and running by 3:45 this afternoon. I thought "Yeah Right!" I was desperate so I tried it and it delivered on its message.I have absolutely no tech background and that makes what I easily learned from this book amazing. What would you do to get your hands on this?
P.S. I liked it so much thst I got the authors permission to promote it and you are welcome to get your copyfrom the actual site I first built and you will too.

I would go with purchasing a domain, use hostgater as your hosting company and use the wordpress platform so you have complete control over your website.

We may change this pattern and make your site according to your choice and according to your requirement.so download free site looks good design patterns. After downloading the templates you can choose the best aspect of model design. In Google, there are a lot of data center availability, which can cause a free space to accommodate the customer's Web site.

You can build a team that is affordable and high quality, with brilliant performances like My Super PC.Site Build has had some success online than any other web hosting company on the website the first page. Favorites are the components that I recommend to build a computer today, including reputable online retailers where to get them.

Joomla is decent. You can find some pretty nifty templates for free, or pay if you'd like something a little more elite.

You can use template generators. there is a lot of them on the web. Some are free some are paid. You can invest one time fee into web generator to save money on design services that might cost you huge money.

    Hi Davey,

I would highly recommend using wordpress to create your website. It's really easy and super user friendly. Not to mention you can create really nice, professional looking sites fast and because they're using wordpress, they're more easily indexed by the search engines.

I always use wordpress to create websites for my products, blogs, niche websites, membership websites, etc. It's highly versatile and can be modified easily.

I've got a free tutorial video on quickly setting up professional, high-impact websites using websites.

Click the link in my signature to check it out.

Hope you're able to get your site up soon. Let me know if my tutorial video helps any.

    Best regards,

    Ethan

I agree too-Wordpress is very easy and there is only a couple day learning curve. You may want to try Moonfruit.com That is a WYSIWYG editor and takes a little getting use to, but one of the best for non-technical users.

I am coming in after a long list of replies. It depends what type of website you want to build. The suggested WordPress route is perhaps on of the best ways and will help you to get noticed by Google quicker and move you up the rankings compred to a basic non-WordPress site.

If you want to build affilate type websites for promoting products then I suggest a recently launched website builder that will make building your own websites a doddle.

It is subscription based but when you consider how many websites you can produce in a month using this software compared to having one built for you, it is a real steal.

Just click on the link in my signature to go the the website. As it says "Now you can build a website"

Wordpress is very good, and relatively easy, but there is some learning curve.

If your page is simple enough, I would go with plain HTML. That way you'll learn all the basic HTML tags that you'll need also in WordPress. I believe everybody who makes web pages should know at least basic HTML formatting.

My first sites were plain html, now I use Wordpress.

As for hosting, I use Site5, Hostgator is also fine.
