How to place my own ads in my WP sidebar?

I have a WP site where I created my own theme using Artisteer. I sell two of my own different products on my site. Each product has its own page.

I have a banner ad I created for each product (each ad links to the appropriate page within the site).

How do I place these ads in my sidebar? Do I need a widget or plugin?

Thanks,
-Robert

To place it in the sidebar you will need a text widget. A plugin like ad manager would work.

You really only need to upload it to a created directory like www.ursite.com/banners/
and then just do the html in that widget to display and link the banner. Don't forget to add formatting to center or whatever you need to make it look the best.

      Awesome. Thanks tbunch.

I figured I needed a widget, but finding the right one was a challenge. I'll download ad manager now.

      Thanks again,

OOPS! Hope you didn't mis-understand! You don't NEED ad manager...

While ad manager is useful - to place your banner ad you only need to place a text widget and put in your html code as you normally would to handle a banner ad.

I did misunderstand... But I'm going to give ad manager a go anyway as I really don't know jack about any of this and I think/hope the widget will be a little easier for me.

          Thanks again tbunch.

Yes, give a text widget a try. You can put virtually anything that is HTML in them. Very nifty for adding your own banners. Be careful to keep your banners inside the limits of your sidebar dimension. Also, once you have installed the text widget, be sure to test your site in IE and Firefox. Often I've found they render simple HTML in a widget box totally differently.
