Hi, yesterday I sold a website, including hosting and domain.
Now the customer asked me to move domain to his GoDaddy account.
He give me only an e-mail.

How can I transfer the domain from Hostgator to GoDaddy ?
I ask to Customer Care but I received two different answers... and they doesn't work.

Thanks.

Did you talk to customer care at Host Gator or at Go Daddy? I am sure Go Daddy will be more than happy to walk you through the process and provide as much support as needed.

And I believe you will have to pay.

      It's not that hard.
You will need a few things:
      1. You need to 'unlock' the domain at hostgator. There should be a control panel that lets you do that. Or else call them.
      2. Start the process at Godaddy and go to transfer domain.
      3. Pay for it and use a godaddy coupon code like RRTV10 to get 30% off .com domains. (RRTV8 if it is something else will usually get at least 10% off)
      4. Go back to Hostgator and call, email or harass them for a domain authorization code.
      5. Once you have that, you will go back to godaddy and put that in the box.

Finally, you sit back and wait. It takes about 5 days. There are no extra fees. Just the cost of buying the domain.

      Hope that helps!!!!

Also there is a way of doing it for free ie it involves you changing the dns of the domains and simply repointing them to your godaddy account. If you need any help doing this then pm me. Otherwise actualy changing the ownership of domains can become very expensive

Ya you have to pay for the transfer. And the option is in domain options.

Great info so far . . . I have been through the same thing with clients. You will need your client's GoDaddy username and password to access his account. Otherwise, you'll be setting up a new account on GoDaddy for him. If the client doesn't remember this info, you can walk him through the process on GoDaddy to retrieve it.

Sometimes moving things around is the toughest part of the job . . .LOL

        All the best
