I own the domain www.blueprintcru.com and its a domain for one of the crews on MTV's "Americas Best Dance Crew" named Blueprint Cru. I was able to register the domain months ago and now they are in the top 2 to win the shows final competition. I have adsense on it but ive gotten next to nothing so I decided to sell it.
Well i contacted the groups choreographer and he said he was interested in buying the domain. What in the heck should I sell this thing for? I have no idea what it should go for or what he would pay. Can someone give me a suggestion?

It depends on the amount of traffic your getting and the amount of time you put into it. If you put a lot of time and resources into the site then you should ask for that and a little more. If you don't have a lot of time in it I would sell it for a little cheaper and ask for a permanent link back to your main site.

If you are selling the domain and the site a good price would be $400-$500 dollars.

If you are selling the domain only, I would ask for $100-$150. Because if they really wanted a website, they could just get a variation of the url and direct traffic there.

    Thanks

I don't think you'd get more than $150, as the above poster said, if they wanted another domain then getting a variation wouldn't be that hard.

Maybe, but do you think Microsoft would want micro-soft.com or microsoft-inc.com or something like that? Not that they are Microsoft but they are on a hit MTV show and are about to win the competition. The traffic has been building and Id imagine it win skyrocket after (hopefully) they win the MTV competition. They are in the final 2...

If i could figure out how to monetize it I would keep it but so far ive only got pennies from Adsense. And id imagine after the show is over traffic is gonna come to a halt so thats why im trying to dump it.

I was thinking that $500 - $800 isnt too much to ask for a finalist group on a hit MTV show but maybe im kidding myself. They already said they are interested. Ill post back if and when i make anything,,..maybe i wont make much but maybe i will..

  • Gx...problem with domains is you can always buy some variation. Google is what matters, hyphens don't. If people search for Blue print cru and the result appears with hyphens, no one cares as they just click.

If hyphens mattered then big movie studios wouldn't use them for movie releases (which they do all the time as most domains are taken).

I personally wouldn't pay more that $100 for an information domain but hey if you can get them to pay $500-$800, more power to you. Shoot high, they will negotiate with you if they really want it. If they are smart, they will pick another available domain for $10.

It is worth $500 to them. They want it and im about to signup to a broker site to handle it. I do agree though that it might not be worth that much to certain people. Its all in the eye of the beholder so to speak.

Robmena, the hurry is, the show is almost over and ive yet to make money with the site. If i didnt sell it soon it would be totally worthless except to the actual group which im selling it to right now. So im getting what i can and running with it!

The price of the domain you own depends upon the popularity and traffic the domain gets,Then only the exact value of your domain can be calculated.

    Hi,

Stick it on www.Sedo.com with a minimum reserve and make them give you an offer. Dont be the first to come up with a price.

They may offer waaaay more than you think for it. Or they may not, in which case it would be better for you to monetise it with CPA ads or something. And if this band gets big and start touring then the TV companies may come in with a bigger offer.

    Cheers

A couple hundred bucks tops. I wouldn't get too greedy as they can actually get it from you if they really wanted to push the issue, unless you can prove another reason why you would own this domain.

I think when selling domains to end user the traffic or exact searches does not matter at all. $150-200 will be a good price point as there are no alternate end users you can flip the domain to.

    Hi,

I was thinking some more about this. Cyber squatting was a big issue in the states for a while and I think the laws regarding this mean they could force a court to get you to hand over the domain unless you can prove a genuine use for it. You have to prove that you didnt buy it just to be able to charge extra for it once it became popular.

My understanding of the matter (and I'm not a lawyer so youd still need to look into this) is if you had a genuine use for the site (such as a fan site) then there's not much they can do about it. But if you have it up for sale then they might just take the legal route. So if you advertise it for sale make sure it costs less than lawyers fees :0) Make it a good price but also the cheaper option.

So if you set up a fan site and had say links to all the you tube videos of the dance troupe you can say you were genuinely setting up a fan site and had no intention of cyber squatting the domain.

Then you could make some good money off all the people who love the dance act or who want to find out more. Why sell it for a few hundred when it could be worth way more in monetised advertising...

    Cheers

Hopefully that isn't a trademarked term for them as if you ask for money for it (which you already have) you're in violation of the domain name "squatter" laws.
