I am a programmer, and I don't have enough money ot hire a designer, so I keep my site simple, would the layout of my site a big problem?

The site is myfeelingbox(dot)com, which launched three days ago.

Thanks.

hi vincent, the site is not so good without graphics.. you should add more graphics or maybe colors and a logo..

I think it's OK for that type of site. The only thing I would change is the logo, it looks really choppy. You don't necessarily need a whole new one, just smoothen it out and make it a vector.

    Good luck.

The simplicity of the design works well with your site concept, but I think it would be helpful if you had a brief description explaining what the site is and how to use it. It would only need to be a couple of sentences, and it should be on the home page. What happens (benefit) when you register? You could include that on the registration page.

I also agree with dem0x7 about the graphic. I like the concept, but it's very pixelated.

    Good luck!

Hi all, thanks for your critiques and suggestions

I've made some changes on my home page and add another page to describe the benefit of joining my site.

Any suggestions/critiques for the site except the logo?

I would start over. There are plenty of free html/css tempates online that can be used as is, or modified to get a nice looking site.

      One place is oswd(dot)org

Same is true with blogs, there are decent free blog themes available.

Hi all, Thanks for your feedbacks.
Rob P, thanks for your long and detailed reply, I really appreciate that.

I realized that maybe the biggest problem of my design is not color scheme. I failed to convey the idea behind my site in home page, then most visitors have no idea about what my site's service is.

Actually my site is far from a social bookmarking site, and this is not a rushed website, although this is my first website, I don't build it for practice, I've spent a long time to construct it. Maybe I am kinda rushed on design, that's because I am a newbie, sometimes I know this part is wrong, but I just don't know how to correct it.

Again, thanks for all comments, I've learn a lot from your feedbacks.

Anyway, I need constant suggestion/critique to improve my site's service. Now, this is a redesign of my home page and other changes on usability, Could you please take a look? All comments welcome.

  • hi Vincent,

Rob provided you with some excellent suggestions as to site design.

You obviously know that the problem with your site is that it doesn't convey in a few short seconds what it provides.

I can show you some of the worst looking websites that generate millions of dollars per year. Yes it is important to have attractive graphics, logos, etc. etc. but at the end of the day if people can't figure out what your website offers in a few seconds they won't use it.

I couldn't figure out what your website offered and I'm pretty web savvy so that may be a good starting point. After you have figured out the marketing and text, that will give you a better idea how to convey to your potential readers, what your website provides and most importantly, why they would want to read the content you have.

I would definitely recommend having a logo designed. Try a logonerds.com.

Despite what others have told you, in my opinion you have the right idea with regards to the way the site is laid out, simplicity is never a bad thing. Look at Twitters success. it is a formula of pure simplicity.

    hope this information helps

My first reaction is that you need to give an example for people to grasp - are you offering psychological analysis or a blogging platform? What do you gain by signing up? What are the benefits? How will it improve your life? What will you do with the responses?

There's no way to see if your site is offering personal insights, providing networking tools or developing a new commercial product! I notice that the tags are limited to positive ideas - no fear, death or taxes!

Hi SandyPeaks, I agree that I need some examples and images to demonstrate my services in detail. Thanks for your advices.
As people's interests often cause positive feelings, and this is a website to express all kinds of interests, so you can't see any negative feelings, unless a user enjoy the experience of fear, death or taxes.
