Currently trying to build a site based around music.

Would it be better to make it with wordpress or dreamweaver? Avid at dreamweaver (well my buddy is)... know how to use weebly... wordpress is unknown but I plan to use it in the future so i need to learn it sometime...

Which site would be best to go with? (ofcourse gonna be lots of advertisement on it...)

So which would look better to the customer? and or easiest and quickest to work with?

Thanks ahead

    Hi:

Your first post! Welcome to the WF. There is a lot of help here, so just be sure to ask. And pay it forward and help others with the things that you know that others are struggling with.

The question is really build a website using Wordpress as a CMS, or build a static html website using an html editor such as Dreamweaver or CoffeeCup, or etc. Learning Dreamweaver is a steep learning curve. Not for the faint of heart.

In my opinion, if you are building a website around music, without a doubt, go for using Wordpress as a CMS instead of a html website using Dreamweaver.

Get self hosted website and install Wordpress, and upload a theme (I really like the Cutline themes - clean and simple), and make your first webpage - all in less than 15 minutes.

And Wordpress plugins support all kinds of multimedia - audio, flash, pics, etc... And if you want to monetize it, there are plugins to support Adsense, Clickbank, Amazon, etc...

    Go for a Wordpress install.

You won't regret it... Take action today and you can have it online tomorrow...

    Mike D.

With the new Dreamweaver CS5 you can code a Wordpress website on your local computer and see the changes live.

It depends on design and function. If you want your site to amaze and wow your customers, go for dreamweaver. If you want the ease to manage the contents (product images, descriptions, etc), go for wordpress.

Together, you can use dreamweaver to create great design themes for Wordpress.

I would answer it this way ...

It all depends on your experience level and on your creativity.

WordPress is certainly the easier option to have a good looking site up quickly. By choosing the right them, you're capitalising on the acquired skills and experience of thousands of others. Then you can learn as you go by modifying the content, starting with images then moving to layout.

But if you really do have creative flair, and have a vision of a website that no template will give you, DreamWeaver is the way to go. You then have control over every pixel on the user's screen. But as others have said, it's a bigger learning curve, and will be slower until you really get the knack of making HTML and CSS flow from your fingertips.

    • Go for wordpress for easy management and with VideoPress, it's simple--just upload your video and they'll convert it to the right formats for sharing on the web (including an HD option for high definition video). They'll present your videos in great style, with a minimalist player design that won't get in the way.

I have a WordPress music site myself. What is your intention for this website? Do you want to sell music, do you want to give samples to your visitors? I mean there are lots of different ways on how to present yourself. If you tell me what you exactly need, I can help you.

For anyone else reading this thread, as a Dreamweaver trainer in a previous life, the advice I would give is this:

If you already know Dreamweaver AND/OR you want to make money as a Web Designer, go ahead.

Otherwise, save yourself a lot of time and money and use Wordpress (and, as one of the other posters siad, choose one of the thousands of excellent free themes).

If you plan to make money with the site, or you already have money, invest it in outsourcing a redisigned theme (or buy a premium theme) - you'll still be quids in on a Copy of Dreamweaver (let alone the time you spend trying to get everything to line up).

I hardly ever start Dreamweaver these days - I even build "static" sites with Wordpress (it's all in the theme!)

    Hope this helps,

    Dom

DreamWeaver is probably the better tool but learning how to use it is not the best use of time. Wordpress is quick but not always that flexible. If your not going after keywords and you just want to a site that looks good maybe try out Weebly or Yolasite.

I particulary like Yolasite as it's quick, there are LOADS of really cool free templates and even the paid templates aren't too expensive. Furthermore you don't get stuck with having widgets or calenders down the side of the site. If I want something that looks good and I want it quick I use Yolasite. If on the other hand you are targeting keywords that you want to rank for then WordPress is by Far the best!!!!
