Nice blog design mate.

The header is a little cluttered on the right. Maybe loose some of those ads down the right.

Hi Chris,

I think the logo and blog are pretty sharp overall. The bio
looks a little cramped, and I'm thinking it may not need to
be there and you may get more opt-ins possibly if it wasn't
there.

I think a white header behind your logo would make your
logo pop more, but it still looks professional.

I have since removed all the ads. I'm not going to bother trying to sell advertising until I have well over 1,000+ readers per month. I was already thinking of doing this but thanks for the feedback.

Hey Bryan,

You might be onto something about the background. At the very least perhaps I'll move from the dark gray over to a lighter white (but perhaps not the same white as the content background)

The bio feels cramped? Is it just the fact that I even have anything there in the first place? i.e. perhaps it'd be better to just remove it entirely?

I kinda just like being able to quickly tell people who's behind the blog in an area easily visible on the page.

What plug-in are you using to rotate the posts at the top, next to the... cramped bio?

Chris,

You know, I think I just figured out why the bio looks so cramped. It's the Feedburner widget! It uses up all the whitespace near the top of the bio.

Can you move FB to the far right and let the RSS and E-mail icons move left? I think that would help.

The article preview is a little too fast for me to read. Maybe only 2-3 lines of words and I would understand the article concepts through the article preview. Looks like a cool site for sure

The preview rotation is moving too fast for me too. But I gotta tell you it was very refreshing to read about the failed ventures- I am so sick of hearing "I started an internet biz and now I am a millionaire and do no work whatsoever and if you sign up for my list and give me all your money you can too!" People should know that there is a learning curve and unless they are seriously lucky they are going to spend time and money learning the ropes.

I like your blog- it's nice looking and honest

OIOpublisher. I'm actually semi testing which arrow color works best for driving newsletter sign ups lol. Simple test but Google website optimizer wouldn't work for me.

Doh two people think it moves too fast. Ok let me see if I can manually edit that easily enough. I'm sure it's just something defined within my wordpress theme file. I'll do a test by reading the info in the box and then adding five extra seconds or more to allow enough time for it to be read comfortably.

Right now, subscribe, rss, and e-mail are on one line. I'm suggesting that you simply change the order to rss, e-mail, subscribe -- and keep it left aligned. (Of course, you could also right align both lines that have icons and see how it looks.)

The Feedburner box/widget with the test over the top looks too "heavy." Just switching the order would help.

Which box -- the box to the left with your rotating content or your Feedburner widget?

The background color of the rotating content box has a very slight blue cast to it. But your color scheme is based on green and black. So I would change the background color to a pure, light gray.

The Feedburner widget looks good in black and gray -- it matches your color scheme.

Chris,

Here are three more possible "fixes" for the cramped bio box...

1) Do you really need the words "Subscribe" and "Connect with me"? People either know what those symbols are -- or they don't. Getting rid of them would instantly make the bio box look less cramped.

2) Can you move the whole third column (in that upper section) 5 to 10 pixels to the right (to make the right margin as narrow as the left margin)?

3) Make your photo wide enough so that the text in your bio box can't wrap. The wrapping makes the words look even more cramped.

Thanks - no I paid someone else I found through 99designs for it $100 to make it.

Oh yah I see that now a bit too I'll see if I can change that in the CSS settings. I can see what you mean about the feedburner widget and how it should be moved over too I did that and changed the color scheme as well based on your recommendation thanks.

2. Yah I see what you mean I'll try working on that now (I'm so bad with coding so it's a guess and check then refresh thing for me)

Hi CHris your blog is definitely good to look at , nice and clean. Professional too.But there are few things which I would like to mention and will certainly make the appearance of your website more neat and clean.

According to me the right hand side bar needs fine margin to separate and keep the content confined to that portion only.

The small icons in your featured list are not doing any good to your website, neither they are benefiting you nor they are enhancing the usability of the blog. So why to keep those hardly recognized square shape icons. Lets get rid of them and provide some spacing.

You should do something with your bio section, Its not only me, but others as well who are making the same point. Either you can create some space in right side bar and take a rectangular shape are to use for your bio or your can make a space by increasing its section from both the extremes.

This much for now...will mention the remaining ones later.
