Too Many Site Reviews ?

Is it just me, or is the Website Design section of this forum becoming increasingly overwhelmed by requests to 'Review my site'?

I would like to put forward a request to Allen that there should be a separate section in this forum for site reviews; that way those looking for actual information on Web Design can do so without sifting through all the review threads.

What are your thoughts?

Hahaha...No, just something that has been irking me for a while!

I would too. I am not saying I am against giving site reviews, and I do find them constructive...it is just that they do tend to 'get in the way' when there are so many of them.

Indeed it can. Do you not get the feeling that *sometimes* when people are asking for 'reviews' what they really mean is 'I am addicted to my traffic stats, please visit my site and help boost my ego!'?

I've been feeling the exact same thing whenever I go through 'review my site' threads. It seems some of them really have no plans of implementing the suggestions posted on the thread.

    Hi,

Definately too many site review requests on here. They get in the way of people with legitimate web design problems.

    Cheers

Agree that 'review my site' type threads should probably have their own board. As a 'review' tends to be purely subjective - the OP can take or leave the advice. Actual web problems tend to be black / white and solvable.

Agreed. I find it difficult to sift through the number of review requests to find the real posts requiring help.

I agree. I mean I don't mind reviewing peoples sites, I love helping out but I do think a separate forum would be better!

I agree that having a separate child forum for site reviews would be a good idea.

    With the following caveat:

That we don't discourage site review requests if Allen decides not to accede to the request.

In 2005 I made a "review my site" request here. I had spent all of a month learning html, css, etc and was proud of my first site.

The members here quickly let me know that the assumption that I knew what I was doing after one month of, what I considered, hard work was an incorrect assumption. Without those member's extremely constructive criticism I may not have continued to improve my skills, continue my education, or even become proficient at something I now love doing.

So I was, and continue to be, a beneficiary of the "review my site" criticism that I innocently brought upon myself.

So a "review my site" forum, Great Idea.

But lets not stop reviewing their sites if we don't get it.

I agree. As a programmer, I mostly want to lend a hand with solveable CSS/html type problems more than style/layout subjective problems.

    yup, definitely a necesity....
and also totally agree when you say that most of the sites put up for review will never implement the suggestions, is just used to promote the site or whatevere service the site provides.... even if it is a marketing forum, still...

I guess it's time for a moderator to run this idea as it's a good one. Having it separately will ensure quality suggestions and more replies straight on the subject.

IMHO 'please review my site' sometimes means 'please review my site' and often means 'please go and register at my site' or 'please buy something from me' or 'please get my webstats up' .... and yes there are too many. Just my tuppenceworth.

Definitely agree. I look for something complete different and as soon as I open up this section, I am bombarded with "Pweez review my site? :3". I really do believe they should add a separate section to keep this site organized.
