My site has a 70% bounce rate and I believe it's because of the design. The landing page is to sell a book. Would anyone here be willing to visit lettinghimgo.com and possibly tell me if it's as bad as my stats are claiming it to be. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I reckon bounce rates would be high because people have seen the format of whatever you website looks like far too often. Perhaps the traffic you are targeting also isn't particularly relevant to your niche. If you need help with design & review, drop me a PM.

EDIT: I looked at the site (I missed the link before) and yes, I would have to say this site needs design reworking. It looks too plain and boring in my opinion.

Thanks for looking. I will work on redesigning.

Lowering the bounce rate down to 20-30% is really easy once you've figured out how to do it.

But where is link the link to your site?

  • Hi CJ

I took a look at your website and I see a few things that spring to mind.

    1. You need to think about a copy (text). Your sales text is not very original and has been done 1000 times before on 1 million different websites. It takes a really special sales text to convert especially in such a saturated market is the one you are trying to sell to.

    2. You need to have a fantastic offer and show people why they should buy your book. This could be done in the header we have all that space. I tell everybody the same thing, you have 3 to 5 seconds to grab your audience's attention. Currently your message is confusing. The header is about letting him go when he cheats, but the heading underneath is "is he cheating?" This is quite conflicting in the minds of someone reading it. Make this message clear and consistent.

    3. Your website looks very aged. I would suggest updating the design.

Remember that getting people to purchase products from your website means getting them to trust you. You have to make sure all the pieces of the puzzle fit together in order for this to happen. That means great sales text, as well as a professional looking website.

Hope this helps and I wish you all a success in the world.

As a copywriter, I have to agree with what Orlando Web Design said about your sales copy. It's plain and unimpressive. You'll need better copy to keep people reading and prevent them from closing the page. You also simply don't have enough copy - the sales pitch is way too short. There are lots of good copywriters here at WF, and some (myself included) would probably offer you a discount.

I agree with most of the above comments. It certainly looks dated and the writing style doesn't sit well with me. Given that your main product is a book you should be impressing people with your site content... (Your blog is a much fresher design, although could do with a mere relevant image in the header). Good luck.

I'd start with simple formatting before anything else.

On my 23" monitor, the text is unevenly spaced, and so widely spaced that it goes almost entirely across the screen. It's virtually impossible for me to read what it says.

Website visitors don't read, they scan. You want your text to be formatted in easy-to-scan columns.

So start by finding a simple template and use that. Don't use a full-width template.

Then re-size the book image to a much smaller size. The book shot is HUGE.
