Hi...I am a newbie so please be patient.

I purchased a website through Flippa. It is a Wordpress site. The seller sent me the data. I then attempted to download the data to my hosting (Godaddy). It would not download. Godaddy said I had to have the data sent to me in a different format. I contacted the seller, they told me to change hosting!?!?!?! I told them I wasn't changing hosting. I haven't heard from them since (I have attempted to contact them several times). I contacted wordpress to see if they could help....they said I had to deal with Godaddy. Godaddy says there is nothing they can do without the right data. I did get a very friendly person at Godaddy who looked at my hosting and said it was a mess (whatever that means). They said to go back to the seller to get it fixed....again, the seller is AWOL. To add to all the confusion, I can no longer access the site on wordpress. I've tried complaining to Flippa but they say there is nothing they can do once the sale goes through.

This has been going on for two weeks. I am beyond frustrated! I have been tempted to just right it off as a learning experience but....just can't do it. The website is out there, belongs to me, I paid for it and I WANT IT!

Thanks for hearing me out and.....

PLEASE, someone help me!!!!!

Thanks!

Can you tell us exactly what the data is, in what format that the Seller sent you?

The seller had sent me their wordpress username and password. I was able to access the site the first day but have not been able to since. It was an SQL.GZ file. I attempted to unzip it using 7Zip but it didn't work.

    Thanks for your help.

They just sent you this file, with no other instructions?

Btw, I'm not sure if it has something to do with Godaddy hosting or not in that case, but for sure GD hosting is horrible and nightmarish and I would strongly recommend you change indeed.

If you want to PM me your details I can take a look if you will.

    Hi,

The sql.gz file is a database file.

The original site owner should have also sent you the wordpress theme/template. You will also probably be transferring the domain across.

Once the domain is transferred to your new host you can then create the site.

The idea is you create a wordpress installation on your own hosting and then upload the theme. Once that's done you then take the sql.gz file and import it into your wordpress database using phpMyAdmin or some other database program from your hosts control panel.

That should create the exact same site on your new host.

    Cheers

Hey Jaqs, I am sorry to hear of your troubles here.. As noted by fellow warriors you will need more than just the SQL file to make your site 100%..

That all being said I would be more than happy to provide you a free hosting account on our rackspace cloudsites account and see if I can get you setup quick.. Not looking for any compensation just looking to help a fellow warrior out of a jam and know that it will come back to me someday..

Let me know if you still need help here..

    Hi Jaqs,

I am sorry for you. Please email me the database zip file so that i can look on it. Godaddy is the best hosting company. I did more than 20 wordpress blogs hosted on godaddy.

There is nothing with godaddy. Don't need to change the hosting company.

Just email me the database i think i can figure it out. Please email me ASAP.

yes its true if the database sales company sale the database to a number of buyers then it will be duplicate. But ir you want to check the database is duplicate or not then you can use this copyscape.com

        Thanks

sorry...but do not get GoDaddy hosting if you plan on using WordPress. Not unless you want a nightmare experience such as random 404's in the WordPress dashboard, slow posting, slow everything!. Honestly, I've had clients using GoDaddy hosting with WordPress and we moved them over to a different host and they are happy to have moved, trust me!

Sorry, but the 404 error you are talking about can be easily corrected from the Cpanel.

I don't think godaddy servers are slower. It is working too good for all of my clients wordpress websites and also the e commerce websites.

        My clients always preffer godaddy.

        Thanks

Having worked with clients who had the misfortune of hosting with GoDaddy I can wholeheartedly agree with Karen's assessment - they are a very poor choice as a host. Just creating a new database or FTP user can take 15 minutes, as opposed to the 15 milliseconds that other hosts require. Hostgator is a much better option.

As for the OP's dilemma it does sound like he/she has not received the entire site, just its associated database. While you might be able to import the data into a virgin WordPress installation and apply a similar theme and plugins it would be far better to get the original installation files from the seller.

If you bought the "Site" through Flippa, did they or did they not transfer ownership of the domain to you?
