Anyone familiar with Joomla/Virtuemart? Having some trouble...

Hey Guys,

I'm trying something new here. Instead of Wordpress, I'm taking a stab at setting up a site based around Joomla as the CMS.

However, I'm having some trouble customizing everything. I'm trying to setup a basic e-commerce page with a Joomla module called VirtueMart.

If there is anyone that is familiar with this, please let me know and we can go from there.

Regards,

Mike

      Hi there,

What a coincidence, I was planning on setting up Wordpress on my site and just got an email about Joomla installation (Learn How to Install Joomla on Your Website in Less Than 5 Minutes).

I'm wondering which application would be better and easier to customize?

Please post your opinion/results here (or a link to your site so I can check it out!).

      Thanks a bunch,

      Tina

Perhaps I have a narrowed/biased perspective, give that I have only used Wordpress out of the two.

However, based on what I have done so far, Wordpress is a lot more intuitive. So I would probably give my vote accordingly.

I'd link to my site, but it's only going to show you a "This site is down for maitenence" message, so it won't do much good.

Are you trying for an e-commerce site as well?

I started with Joomla and used it for a few years before moving to WordPress. I still use Joomla for sites such as Community Portals, Membership Sites and eCommerce sites (such as the one you are constructing).

WordPress is the easier of the two to work with and recent improvements and plugins have made it a versatile platform for almost every use. But for a full-fledged Content Management System (CMS) Joomla or Drupal are better choices.

As for Virtumart I've used it but it's been a couple of years. As I recall it was a stable and reliable component. What problem are you having with it?
