Who is the best host around at the moment?

Hi all,

We might be changing server company (again!) thanks to what seems to be a major hack at our current big name host and ongoing support issues.

Our need is for hosting of 15+ Wordpress sites and cloud technology is desirable. But the really big thing is security, support and backups.

We are not super-techs so we also need a good user-friendly solution.

Who would you recommend?

Who would you avoid?

(And I respectfully request personal recommendations only, not reseller/affiliate links - thanks)

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Future Hosting - I have been with them for over 3 years. They specialize in virtual private servers and dedicated servers. So if your looking for a shared host, they might not be for you.

One of the nice things I like about Future Hosting, if your looking for certain server specs, they can probably help you out. Sometimes they will offer specials, like an extra 256megs of memory for the life of the plan. I think they use solid state drives instead of SATA drives - this gives you a faster response time. They also have a support forum setup for their customers.

Currently I lease a dedicated quad core server, with 8 gigs of memory.

And I'am not associated with Future Hosting in anyway, I'am just a customer.

Hosting companies varies from one to another over the time what seems good and reliable now could become bad afterwards.
I have been changing hosts over the years at the moment I am stuck with one is not a resseller they own their servers they are cheap, customer services good they have good offers with free domain names and also offer good affiliate.
I am hosting more than 10 sites with them for more than 3 years now.

      ixwebhosting dot com

      Good luck

One should read the OP before posting one's hosting recommendation, the guy wants CLOUD hosting.

Otherwise there's aleady a thread going on about the "hosting recommendations" ... here http://www.warriorforum.com/website-...endations.html

So please, oh please, don't start another one, this is so annoying, this is a WEB DESIGN forum.

    Thanks

The exact wording about cloud computing was its "desirable", he did not say its "required".

Very few host that I know of offer actual cloud/load balancing/grid/ (whatever you want to call it) computing. The ones that I have looked, when it comes to high traffic sites, the host does not want to give exact specifications on load times and load balance issues. You have to lease your own dedicated servers and create your own array of servers for load balancing.

WOW! You like to play on words man! lol

Ok, then it was NOT cloud "computing" the he mentioned, it was "cloud hosting" and if something is "desirable" enough for one, then this is what one WANTS, no need to mention that it is "required" imho, "desirable" being a strong enough adjective. When a client approach me with a desire I will try to provide it, not sending him away from it.

Moreover, there's a huge difference between "cloud computing" and "cloud hosting"...

        Have a nice day!

        Regards,

Cloud hosting uses cloud computing (which is just really load balancing by a different name). An array of servers are used to balance the load between multiple sites.

I dont see where their is that much of a difference.

Back in the late 1990s, we used to call it "Load Balancing", instead of cloud computing.

Cloud hosting might be fine for small sites. But like with everything else, hosting providers do not want a couple of sites hogging the resources of the servers.

Well, there's as much differences as using a micro computer for home or business or use one for web hosting. Even if the hardware is somewhat the same, the difference is huge in application and software, so that cloud computing is NOT necessarely cloud web hosting at all.

I too come from the computing world of the beginning of the 90s Make a seach for "cloud computing" and "cloud hosting" you'll see it's two worlds.

It depends what do you need.

Are you looking for SEO hosting or just great hosting to handle your various sites?
How many visitors do you predict?

Cloud hosting is still fairly new. Have you considered a fully managed VPS? You can't go wrong with a company like KnownHost or WiredTree, IMO.

That's odd - a few days ago Google was giving 460k results, now it's a fraction of that! Ignore me :p

I am new to hostgator and have been impressed with 24 hour support mainly via online chat. I had one issue not so long ago when the company in question (better not name names) had provided a template with all sorts of WP glitches. The rep from hostgator went in with my WP user name password and fixed them. I have also used eukhost and globalgold. Both ok but hostgator seems to be the market leader in packages and customer service right now.

In another post - I can't locate it now - peeps were starting to get a bit ratty with another popular one, Go Daddy. So maybe one to avoid until they techy up a bit.

Suggest go into online chat with each of the ones suggested by warriors and tell them what you would like to do with cloud etc

I've just started using Hostgator. When I make any changes on my WordPress site it takes hours before I see the change I've made. Don't know if it's because I'm using mobile broadband which may slow things down or if it's a Hostgator problem.

If you have enough budget, than you'll have more choices. IMHO, not all hosting can suited to your needs, you can check their feature, prices, and the most important, their services. Can I say a brand's name here? just make sure first
    HostGator, so far so good

Liquid Web would be my recommendation. They aren't a *budget* host. They aren't super expensive, but when you look at your bluehost, hostgator, lunarpages, blahblahblah they look pricey. You get what you pay for though. I've recommend them to clients and friends and never heard a complaint, they really take care of their customers.

Its very hard to say, All depends on what you need. There are plenty of hosting companies based on your need, you can never say who is good and who is bad.

But please read some reviews , user experience before you buy a hosting account.

Site5.com just started rolling out cloud hosting,

I have been with a few different companies including SiteGround, which is a bit more expensive... Site5 takes the cake.

Bluehost.com is great...reliable, 24/7 support, and good prices.

DO NOT go with BCWebnet, they havent been answering tickets for 9 months. Many people are purchasing hosting and not receiving the welcome message with the control panel info in it.

    Thats my two cents!

I've used a lot of hosts, they all seem roughly the same to me. As long as you know what features you need for your site and make sure the host has them, you should be fine. The only other thing to keep in mind is customer support -- if you think you'll need it at all, you might want to look for a host that offers it 24/7.

I currently use GlowHost with no problems. I've used a lot of other hosts though, and the only one I would genuinely recommend you stay away from is NearlyFreeSpeech. They do not know how to treat their customers.
