Free scripts to create membership form

Does anyone know of free software or scripts to create a form for people to sign up for a newsletter on your site. I know I could pay for aweber and do this which would help with emails to this list but I want to know if any free methods work and what are the pitfalls in taking the free option.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    not sure of any free ones out there that are any good. its not real hard to make a form adn have it store the info in a file or a database real easy. you wouldnt have any emailing functions but you would be able to save the data. not sure your knowledge with forms and php so it could end up being hard if you dont know anything about them.

    there is a site you can check out called hotscripts.com to see if you can find a free solution.
