WordPress 3.0 Question

Hi, Warriors,

I want to create a blog area on one of my sites similar to Blogger, only for family members.

I have installed WordPress 3.0. I know it is multiuser, but I am not sure exactly what that means. Does it provide the ability to have different blogs in assorted subdirectories, or does it only have one directory with multiple users?

My daughter is an artist (I'm prejudiced, but I think she is pretty good.). She has sold some of her art, and would like a place to showcase and sell her art online.

My son is a web designer, and his skills blow mine out of the water--and I teach Web Design at the college level! Unfortunately, he doesn't use WordPress. He, also, would be interested in having a blog on a family type blogroll.

If you can help with information, I would really appreciate it. I can develop web sites all day long using HTML and CSS or Dreamweaver, but WordPress is a new animal for me.

Thanks in advance,

Linda

sure you can add "mutliple site" in your single wordpress site, by installing different wordpress on different folders. Or if u want a simple one, you can using wordress MU.

    Hi, redneo,

Thanks for answering. So, WordPress MU allows you to create multiple blogs, or add multiple people to one blog? And if you have WordPress 3.0 installed, I assume you would have to uninstall 3.0 to install MU?

    I appreciate your help.

The biggest change in WordPress 3.0 is the integration of wordPress MU with WordPress. You can now operate multiple sites from one installation, but they will all be sub domains or directories of your primary domain.

The standard installation of WordPress 3.0 installs the single user version. To activate multi user you need to ensure you have a fixed (dedicated) IP address range and activate it via the wp-config.php file.

Instructions are set out in the WordPress 3.0 Codex:

    Cheers,

    Martin.
