    Camtasia is good, but expensive.

I also use the video editing suite from AVS4YOU. You pay a once only fee and that gets you access to a whole range of other, very useful tools too.
    Check 'em out!

      Windows movie maker is free.

For ease of use, and cost, its difficult to beat windows movie maker. But, it lacks a lot of features - no special effects and it only works with certain video formats.

As per my experience best video editing software is total video editor. In that video you can get directly option to edit that video. It is very easy to use and it is free in google so you can download that video editing software totally free.

I decided to get a Mac when I started working with video. First I used iMovie and then graduated to Final Cut Express. iMovie is free with a Mac. The program is very straightforward and easy to use. Final Cut Express has more of a learning curve but online instructional videos can make all the difference in the world. I would recommend both if you have access to a Mac.

If you are Ok with Windows Movie Maker, then I suggest you move up to Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD (or the more expensive Platinum version if you need DVDs). Sorry, cannot post links due to low post number, google it.)

Easy to use with standard Windows key commands, for example, and top notch quality output designed for YouTube and such.

For video editing and DVD production I use Sony movie Studio HD Platinum see: Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 Overview

Sony movie studio also comes with DVD Architect Studio for creating DVD menus and preparing video files. Sony movie studio has tons of features and its really easy to use - its all drag and drop.

For screencasts I use Camtasia studio 6 and now 7. However I wouldn't use camtasia for editing anything other then short screencast.

If you buy Sony movie studio HD - buy it from Amazon "cheaper" see Amazon.com: Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum...Amazon.com: Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum...

It depends on what kind of video you would like to create. Instructional video? video that you talk and do demo on the screen to teach people how to do something? Or record powerpoint slides?

Then I will recommend Camtasia Studio, the best on-screen capture software I have been using so far. Costly but good. Slightly advance than Windows Movie Maker in my opinion.

Alternative choices will be Jing (also from TechSmith) and CamStudio. Both are free but not as many features as compared to Camtasia... but a good start to play with. Both have the basic feature like Camtasia, i.e. capture whatever you see on your screen but when it comes to editing, they are less flexible.

If you want to edit video that you capture using your video camera. Camtasia will still be a good choice but some other professional software like Sony Vegas Pro is a better choice. You can create 3D effect, alot more transision effects available, credit roll etc. You can see it as a very advanced Windows Movie Maker. Sony Vegas Pro is costly also and require longer learning time.

Haha. For myself, I am still figuring out how to use it to edit my trip videos.

    Hope this help.

The "best and easiest" software to use is the software that does what you want in the way that you want to do it.

There have been plenty of suggestions in this thread but ultimately it comes down to how comfortable you are with the software.

I know people that use Final Cut, Premiere Pro, Avid, and Sony Vegas. For the most these all do the same thing but people have personal preferences based on work flow.

I'd suggest downloading the free trials from Adobe Premiere Elements, Sony Vegas Movie Studio, Camtasia (more for screen casts), and any other program you're interested in and find the one that you *connect* with.

If you're going to be taking screencasts, Camtasia is great. Otherwise, look for Sony Vegas Studio or Magix Movie Edit.

It really depends on what you want but much effect is not usually the best way to decide on a video editor. However if you want a lot of effects, you are really looking the most difficult editors there are plugins available for Windows Movie Maker for the first time could search google for the first WMM plugins While professionals like video editors Adobe the semi may seem complicated or confusing at first.

I have researched them extensively and tried most of them out. I liked Sony Vegas but the learning curve is steep. I tried Adobe but took too much space on my computer. I also purchased Microsoft Plus! which is discontinued but you can still get it for $25 or so. My favorite and the one I ended up with is Corel Studio. It's photo and movie editing and has nice templates, easy to use. It's great.
      Good luck with it!

Sometimes a lot of money for expensive video editing video editing software and high performance graphics with large disk space consumption is due to computer needs. Video editing software, you can easily capture, edit and share your video like a pro. There is large amount of video editing software on the market.

Plenty of video editing software are there. MS Movie Maker comes with Windows. It is easy to use and has little effect to enhance your video. If you want more effects and features, go for Sony Vegas. But it can have a bit of a steep learning curve. Cyberlink Power Director may offer similar opportunities to a learning curve less.

Camtasia has to be one of the best but as mentioned before it's expensive. I got it for free when I got started with the affiliate program I'm working with (see my sig). The guy I joined under bought the unlimited edu license and makes it available to all of his downline free for the downloading and he provides the product keys. Of course you have to join the affiliate program but hey it's only $10/Mo. so that's still a lot better than $300. Plus there is hours and hours of SEO tutorial videos and tons of other IM tools like XGENseo and Wordpress tools and just on and on and on.

If you were to do a straw poll of the various Web Video trainers out there you would find this:

PC Windows Moviemaker (free) Sony Vegas (paid)
Mac imovie (free) final cut express (paid)

If you are going to do a lot of videos in 2011 (as video becomes bigger and bigger) I'd skip the free ones and go straight for a paid option
