Which site would rank higher in a search engine after a couple months, 1 or 2?

1.) Front page is a static(doesn't change over time), keyword rich, and optimized page detailing the site's purpose; like an About Us page. Fresh news, blog, and articles are added regularly in their own sections. All pages are title/meta/header/alt tag/etc optimized.

or

2.) Front page is always fresh with news and blog posts all relating to the niche, linking to pages further into the site. A seperate About Us page detailing the site's purpose stays the same but is heavily optimized. New Articles posted in their own section regularly. All pages are title/meta/header/alt tag/etc optimized.

I am not a SEO expert but my experience is that both of them have the same chances of ranking high if you have enough backlinks.

So, I would concentrate more on linkbuilding and then you can decide which style you want to have for your site.

Thats my take on it anyway.... but may be someone more experienced will answer it differently. Lets see.

#2 - Fresh content keeps Google coming back to your site. If Google sees changes everyday, it'll come back everyday - giving you more chances to grow the site, and become more relevant (higher rankings). If Google starts noticing your page only changing once per month, Google may only show up once a month. Only way to alert Google of "unscheduled" changes then is to place a backlink from a relevant site Google is constantly visiting. Or drop a backlink on a web 2.0 property and ping it.

    Hope this helps

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

Both of these options would work. Just build your links to the pages with the freshest content and you will rank well.

Awesome info, thanks guys. Sounds like I'm definitely concentrating my time in the wrong area. I've been so concerned with page layout and tweaking every little detail I've had linkbuilding on the back-burner. Time to go get some links!

      Hey mate,

I´d said it depends on what your niche is. If your niche is News related, then definitely you will need to have constant update and news.

Otherwise I would say a static front page will help you better, keyword wise you need to have really focused keywords that work towards your goals.

You can have a blog with news under a blog or news directory. I for example, have a website focused towards travel in certain city, my front page is focused on delivering the user what they are looking for (what to do, where to eat, zone where they should book hotels, etc.); at the same time I have a directory with news, where I squeeze more keywords and then deliver to my sections inside the whole website.

Hope my experience helps you decide. Maybe if you explain a little bit more your niche, I can hel you further.

      regards,
      Flavio

When changing the content of a page to a severe degree, you can lose your Page Rank. However, this should not stop you from adding new and original content to the front page because that will DRAW traffic.

Hello Mate, For an seo expert it doesn't matter whether it is a single page site or any frequently updated site or blog. If you keep updating your site you will certainly have an edge over other sites because google loves fresh content. But for a static single page site it gets indexed quicker than any other.

Ok good to know, thanks guys. I'm having a hard time getting used to how long it takes to see your rank adjustment when changes are made. I'm too impatient.. I try to change one thing and end up re-arranging the whole site. This is probably hurting my rankings according to what you guys are saying so I'll work on keeping the front page fresh and leave the rest alone, thanks again!

Do both and test with https://www.google.com/analytics/siteopt/splash?hl=en

I've personally had success with both so i'd say ranking higher doesn't have anything to do with having a static or dynamic home page as it does with what really matters to Google - relevance.

How does site layout tweaks affect ranking? I've been making small changes and tweaks here and there in the last week. I've made sure to link back into the new areas from the front page so I'm hoping the crawlers won't hate me too much.
