Hi Guys

Could someone please point me to the path to solve this problem.

I have installed a directory script on my server in root folder, which is all working fine.

But i have just activated wordpress blog from cpanel>>fantastico,in another folder by name of "blog" on same server, but i keeping getting this error message "The page cannot be found 404 Error". ( Which i want run along with my directory)

Although the blog was setup ok.

Now i have installed new scripts and blogs before where i have had no problem, i am moderately experienced in doing this kind of work.

The only thing i can think of is where i over wrote the "root folder" HTACCESS file, would this cause the problem.

I have tried to add the original HTACCESS file back into the root folder but it does not make any different apart from making the directory script not working properly.

Please help.

Regards

Ash

    Ash,

Can you provide a URL for us to look at?

Have you checked any configuration files in your blog to ensure that the path is correct?

I had the same problem yesterday. Somehow it fixed itself in the evening but I'm curious about that too.

Jonathan, thank you for your response.

I have never had any problem like this before, i have more than 6 wordpress blogs all running on well, and i installed them through my cpanel>>Fantastico and all running well.

This is my first time i have encountered a problem, yes the configuration files in my blog are all well.

One thing i have just done is created another folder naming "test" and put in a index.html page to check the problem and i am getting the same error "The Page Cannot Be Found 404 Error" although the index page is there with content.

All started after i installed portal directory script into my root folder "/ public_html" now the silly thing is i have configured the whole site and am worried if i moved it to another folder will it work ok with the "/ public_html" and overwrote the existing structure "htaccess file" with the one that came with the portal directory script.

      Thanks

      Ash

    Hello ebiz96,
I'm not sure what features are available on your web host, or the level of access you have. But if you use cpanel you should be able to view server logs to identify the offending page or path or script that is causing your 404 error. If you run Apache you can also trap this error with .htaccess and send it to your index.html or to your own custom 404 page.

One thing I would check for your Wordpress install is the option that shows your full path to the blog. It might be something simple like the domain name does not have www in front of it. Some servers don't care, others force you to include www in the URL. What version of Wordpress are you using? Any other error messages that show up along with this one?
