Total Newbie Question - I see code instead of HTML

New to designing on a mac - I don't want to go through the whole dreamweaver install to just plop a simple HTML page online.

I used a basic text editor to draft up a quick html page. Threw it onto the site using filezilla. It's just under a directory on the main site.

site/directory/mypage.htm

yet it's showing code instead of parsing the html properly. Did I miss something? Man, no wonder I switched to wordpress. (but I don't need an entire wordpress install for this one simple page)

what text editor did you code it in?

I'd suggest doing coding in "text wrangler" for simple coding on a mac, it's free.

can you link the page? or PM me the page, it may help me figure out what is wrong by looking at it, it's possible that you maybe missed a ">"

upon examining the source, it looks like whichever editor you used caused an issue. If i were to copy and paste the html showing into notepad and save it as an html file it works perfectly fine. I'd suggest trying text wrangler to re-type the html. like i said it's a free app for Mac that functions as a great text editor.

yep - that did it. I was using textedit on a mac, I figured it was the notepad equivalent so I didn't suspect that it would add anything to the file, but I guess I was mistaken. Cheers!

    glad you got it fixed!

textwrangler is great, i do a lot of coding and xml work in it. if you need another editor i would suggest "coda" it's great for CSS.
