Web Design Outsourcing

Hi warriors,

I'm outsourcing the web design of my site (see sig) as I'm useless at that sort of stuff.

I've found someone to do it, he wants to charge me $15/hour, is this a good/bad rate?

Anything else I need to know, I'm a complete noob when it comes to web design and I don't want to find out that I've been taken for a complete ride.

Any pointers?

Thanks,
Matt

Is it a one page site, like a minisite? Or does it have many pages and a complex backend?

I charge by the job for minisites and small websites, I could do by the hour and If I did it would be between 15-25 per hour.

The problem doing by the hour is are they really working each hour to its fullest? In a corporation or design studio type setting I could see that, or if you know and trust them, but personally I would pay for the job and not by the hour......

    Thats just me......

Agree I would not pay by the hour... you may be paying someone that is slow... you can look in the warriors for hire at what web designers are offering for how much and maybe get a good comparison in there... you might find what you are looking for in a packaged price.

Well he said $80 then he's changed it to $15 per hour, he's also said he'd write down everything he does to show me he's being genuine, but if he comes back with logs of what I read as meaningless (not clued up on programming) then he could say anything and charge me anything!

lolz! you said you dont know anything about designing so if he shows you what he did you wont understand. lolz! Even if you do he can still prove it you that he is right and the hours he worked are justifiable. So dont pay by hour, pay by the job. That is how it works.
I have a designing team also. Let me know what are your requirements if you want to.

      Thanks

Paying per hour when you are outsourcing is risky because you never know how much hours the guy is putting in.

I do web design and always charge on the per project basis.

I do not outsource the solution to online marketing. Automation is the solution of online marketing. Outsourcing someone else to do the job. Whatever it is something to consider carefully. Automation does not cost anything. To define the action and the design of software to get done.

        Hi,

depends. If it is only a minisite go with a fixed quote and leave that $15 on their own. I normaly pay between $50 and $80 including all graphics and without copyright notice.

If it would be a larger project, I would ask for a quote, but maybe pay per hour. The reason is, that if you agreed on a fixed price, your outsourcer might end up figuring out that he charged way to low. The result? Low quality.

I know what I'm talking about. I did freelance webdesign since 2001...
